Q: Will my email address or personal info be given to third parties?

A: Absolutely not! All personal information is kept strictly confidential and is only used for making bookings through Hotwire. Only the personal information necessary to complete a transaction is passed on to third parties. For example, the airline carrier issuing the ticket will need your information.

To help us improve our Web site, offerings and travel services, we may ask our customers for feedback. This feedback may be shared with companies helping us research and implement improvements. However, we will not release the information outside Hotwire without your prior permission. We may occasionally share aggregated data with selected travel business partners -- but never individually identifiable data.

From time to time, Hotwire may also employ a third-party advertising company to serve ads on our behalf. Any information that the company collects through technology devices -- such as cookies and action tags -- is completely anonymous and does not contain any personally identifiable information. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.

Q: What are cookies and how does Hotwire use them?

A: Cookies are small bits of information, typically stored on a customer's computer, which enable a Web site to "personalize" itself for each user. When creating an account on Hotwire, one cookie is left on your computer to help verify your identity when you access the site. In order to store temporary session information, another cookie is created when you log in. This cookie is removed when you close your browser. Neither cookie contains any of your personal information, which is stored on our Web servers. Your security and privacy are a priority. Please see our Privacy Policy for more details.

Q: What browser security settings are required to use the Hotwire site?

A: We recommend using a browser with 128-bit encryption. Some customers using browsers with 56-bit encryption have experienced difficulties logging into our site. If you are having a similar problem, we recommend you verify your browser version and security preferences.

Microsoft Internet Explorer Users

There is a security problem with the 56-bit encryption version of Microsoft Internet Explorer that prevents users from getting into the secure area of our site.

To verify your browser version and encryption strength: select "Help" menu, then select "About Internet Explorer".

If you are using a version of Internet Explorer prior to version 5.5, your advanced-settings default may need to be modified. Go to the "Tools > Internet Options" menu option. Click the "Advanced" tab, scroll down to the "Security" section and make sure the following items are checked:

Use PCT 1.0
Use SSL 2.0
Use SSL 3.0
Use TLS 1.0

When you're done, click "OK" or "Apply".

If that does not allow you to browse our site, please consider upgrading your browser. The latest versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer come with 128-bit encryption. You can upgrade the security features of your browser or upgrade to a newer version of Internet Explorer.

Q: Why am I being asked for a password to use my credit card?

A: Hotwire supports Verified by Visa (VbV) and MasterCard® SecureCodeTM, which are security technologies that authenticate your Visa or MasterCard and ensure that only the authorized cardholder is placing the order. If you are signed up with VbV or MasterCard® SecureCodeTM , then your password is required by the bank that issued your card. Hotwire does not require you to sign up, but when we request authorization from your bank, they may require you to do so.

Hotwire Customer Care is unable to assist you with credit card verification questions. Please contact your card issuer if you are having trouble entering your password.
