Q: Why can't I see the name of the hotel or the street address until after I book?

A: By allowing our hotel suppliers to remain anonymous, we negotiate rates significantly lower than those you'll find on other travel sites. Once you book your room, we immediately confirm your reservation and show you the hotel's complete details, including its name and exact location.

To help you book the hotel that's right for you, we clearly list the city area where each hotel is located, along with an area map. In larger cities, we may also provide a description of the area's flavor, and a list of local landmarks, activities and attractions found nearby.

Q: What are the different lodging types?

A: Hotel - In addition to standard hotel rooms, we also offer hotel rooms in the following specialty categories:

Suites: Hotel features guest rooms that are designed for an extended stay or are more spacious than the average hotel room -- or both. Suites typically offer: a residential look and feel, a kitchenette and separate living room and bedroom areas.

Boutique: Hotel has a distinctive, unique or eclectic atmosphere. It may be a smaller, hip property tucked into an urban setting, or a renovated hotel with a historical flair -- but it's always a bit different and unusual.

Resort: Hotels usually include tennis courts, spa services, fitness facilities, swimming pool, superior dining options, and on-site or nearby golf courses. Coastal resorts boast ocean views or beachfront access. Note: A resort fee may be charged.

Condominium - Lodging features condominium units -- often comparable to a small apartment in size, features and amenities. Some units offer separate bedroom and living rooms, a full kitchen and a balcony or outdoor seating area. Typical condominium units can accommodate more people than a typical hotel room. Resort condominiums offer the services and amenities of resort properties, such as ocean views, tennis courts, and spa services. Condominium units may not have daily housekeeping service.

All-inclusive Resort - Stay includes all meals, snacks, & non-alcoholic beverages, and many daily activities. Often, transportation to and from the airport is provided and tips and taxes on meals and other bookings are included in the price of your stay. Some resorts may include all alcoholic beverages, regular live entertainment, and other amenities.

Q: How many beds are in the lodgings?

A: All rooms booked on Hotwire will accommodate the appropriate number of guests in each room, based on the total number of guests you provided and the number of rooms you requested. While we cannot guarantee the number of beds in a property room, some properties may offer pull-out couches or cots. If you have specific needs, please contact the property directly. Our partners will do their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Q: Can I request a specific type of bed (e.g., king, double)?

Q: How can I find a hotel in the neighborhood where I want to stay?

A: Hotwire offers five ways to search for a hotel in your preferred location:

1. Search by city name. Enter the full city name (for example, "San Francisco"). Or, select from a list of cities by clicking the "See all cities" link below the search field.

2. Search by airport. Enter the three-letter airport code (for example, "SFO" for San Francisco International) or airport name (for example, "La Guardia") of any airport in the city's metropolitan area.

3. Search by address. Enter an address in the city area where you would like stay.

4. Search by Zip code. Enter a five-digit US Zip code or six-digit Canadian postal code to search for a specific city area (for example, 94105 for downtown San Francisco).

5. Search by drive trip distance.Select the "Hotels" tab at the top of the page and click "Go Local Search" to find the best deals within 250 miles. Then, enter the city, airport or Zip code of your starting destination, and how far you're willing to drive. We'll show you popular destinations within your driving distance.

Q: What if I can't find my city?

A: If you enter a city name that applies to multiple locations (such as "Springfield" or "Portland"), we will offer you a short list of possible matches.

If we can't recognize the name of the city you entered, we will offer you a list of all available cities beginning with the same letter of your entry.

If your destination doesn't appear on the list, try selecting a larger nearby city. For example, "Lake Buena Vista, FL" may not appear, but "Orlando, FL" includes the Lake Buena Vista area.

If we don't have any available rooms in your desired location, we will offer you a list of nearby destinations, up to 50 miles from your original location. We constantly expand our list of hotel suppliers, so be sure to check back often for new locations.

Q: Why isn't there a map for the city I'm searching?

A: In cases where Hotwire only serves one city area in a destination, a map may not be provided.

Q: How many rooms can I book in one transaction?

A: You can book up to four hotel rooms at one time. (Remember that by selecting the maximum, you're limiting your search results.) We cannot guarantee that all guests will stay in rooms next to or near each other.

When a booking consists of multiple room reservations, they will all be held under the guest name indicated at the time of your booking. If you would like to have the additional room(s) reserved under a name other than the one you originally indicated, please call the hotel after booking (but before checking in) to change the name(s) for the other rooms. Hotels will not allow guests to check in to a room unless it is either listed under the name of the individual indicated at the time of booking or the guest is accompanying that person at check-in.

Q: Can I book a same-day reservation?

A: Yes. In order to check in to a room today, the booking must be completed before 11 p.m., based on the local time of the city where you are interested in staying.
