Q: Can I book a hotel reservation for someone else using my credit card?

A: Yes. Please note that the credit card billing address must match the address on record with the credit card company.

On the Billing page, you will need to enter a guest name for each room you book. At check-in, the guest will need to present a valid ID and credit card - both should match the name under which the room is reserved. Hotels will require a credit card authorization to guarantee payment of any incidental charges that you may incur during the stay. The amount of available credit needed will vary by hotel, although some hotels allow a cash deposit to secure any incidentals.

Q: How can I pay for my booking on Hotwire?

A: You can pay for travel bookings on the Hotwire site using the following major credit cards: MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express and JCB.

You may also pay with a debit card. Your bank will deduct the booking amount from your checking account balance. Note that there are some restrictions on the use of debit cards, such as limitations on the number of daily transactions and a set daily withdrawal limit.

Hotwire.com does not accept prepaid or 'stored value' cards for payment, including those showing a MasterCard or Visa logo.

On the Billing page, enter the card identification number, which is a security code issued with all credit and debit cards. It is used as an additional means of protection against fraud and helps us validate your booking. (The non-embossed ID number is located on either the front or back of the credit card.)

Hotwire supports Verified by Visa (VbV) and MasterCard® SecureCodeTM, security technologies that authenticate your Visa or MasterCard ensuring that only the authorized cardholder is placing the order. If the bank that issued your card supports VbV or MasterCard® SecureCodeTM, you will be prompted to enter your password or to sign up as you check out.

Note that, while you may pay for your car rental booking with a debit card, many car rental companies will not accept a debit card as a deposit when you pick up the vehicle, and you will be denied rental.

When searching for a car rental, you can choose to see only results for companies that accept debit cards for deposit at pick-up. But since this will limit your search range, you might not see the best available deal in your search results. For rentals outside the U.S. and Canada, you will be required to use a credit card for your rental deposit; debit cards will not be accepted.

Q: Why am I being asked for a password to use my credit card?

A: Hotwire supports Verified by Visa (VbV) and MasterCard® SecureCodeTM, which are security technologies that authenticate your Visa or MasterCard and ensure that only the authorized cardholder is placing the order. If you are signed up with VbV or MasterCard® SecureCodeTM , then your password is required by the bank that issued your card. Hotwire does not require you to sign up, but when we request authorization from your bank, they may require you to do so.

Hotwire Customer Care is unable to assist you with credit card verification questions. Please contact your card issuer if you are having trouble entering your password.

Q: If I select PayPal as my payment method, how will I be charged?

A: You can choose to pay with your PayPal account balance, or you can select another payment method such as instant bank account transfer, eCheck or credit card. Once you select PayPal as your payment method, the PayPal system will walk you through the payment process.
