A great hotel experience
This hotel was wonderful. We tried it because of a Living Social Deal and would return there if we have the chance. Good location, the room was spacious and clean and there were lots of amenities, such as indoor pool, fitness center, a delicious brunch, and a gift shop. Our Bellman, Asmanaw Haile, couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The driver of the shuttle, Lamar, who took us back and forth to the Pentagon City Mall and the Metro Station, was extremely interesting, and did everything to help us that he possibly could. There was so much going on at this hotel, it's obvious why it's so popular.

If it can go wrong it will - like the mistaken $970 charge after two days
Let's start with the most serious issue: a $970 pending transaction on my bank account from the hotel after two days in town for a training that should have been billed to my employer. The charges were not even related to my room and how they ended up on my account I'll never know. I caught the charges in time, went to the front desk, talked with my bank and the charges were taken off after the manager faxed my bank. To the hotel's credit, I was given a complimentary membership in their Club Lounge on the 14th floor with free breakfast, hors d'oeuvres and cheaper drinks than at the bar for the rest of my stay - just over a week.However, a colleague had to change rooms in the middle of the night when water started leaking through the wall, a tour operator had boys and girls in completely different wings when they were supposed to be at opposite ends of the same floor which made security difficult, the ice buckets could not keep ice cubes frozen for more than a few hours and the tv remote was so hard to use that one show I had thought I might watch had ended by the time I navigated back to the channel. The channel select keys just do not work well. I was not given the room I had been promised with a Capitol view, and with no hotel service book, I was unable to find out how to schedule a wake-up call and instead used my alarm clock, radio and my cell phone. I was also annoyed that I had to ask the front desk twice for my $5 voucher when I decided to forego linen service and having the bed made up. The floor manager did not leave the vouchers after each "go green option."On the positive side, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the restaurant serves nice, if pricey, food. I recommend the fish and chips. There is a reasonably-priced gift shop, pool and gym. It's also close to the Pentagon City Mall and the Metro with a shuttle running every half hour. The water pressure in the showers is fine and the room climate easily adjusted.The hotel is always crowded with tours and lots of events, particularly on weekends. While I was there, a Haitian group had their annual party, an Iraqi singer gave a standing-room-only concert to Iraqi ex-patriots, the Army had its Military Ball, the Marines had their Father/Daughter Dinner and Louis Farrakhan decided to stay for a few days with about 25 of his personal security detail who got in everyone's faces. And about four or five other groups were holding meetings and training. Get the picture?If you decide to stay at the Sheraton National, as it's called, be prepared because you won't be able to relax. If I have a choice, I won't be returning.

On the list of places "not to stay" in Arlington
A friend and I went to DC to have a "girls" weekend and she bought a Groupon for one night. She paid in advance full price for a second night. We were woken up at 10:30 at night after a long day of sightseeing and were forced to leave our room on the second night, as apparently the room was part of a block that had been reserved for a large party. What a nightmare! This is definitely not a place I would stay in the future. The location was not good - definitely not convenient to the metro.

Great weekend trip
We went up to DC to run the Cherry Blossom 10 miler in April. The hotel is clean, the room was nice, and we got a great price for an Arlington hotel. The hotel runs a shuttle to the Pentagon City Mall every half hour so we were able to pick up the metro into the city.

Pleasant stay
Stayed one night. Everything was good. Too much construction around area, turning what already is a traffic nightmare into a much larger one. Room was great, club room was perfect for breakfast starting the day. Fitness center and pool nice and clean.
