I stopped staying at courtyard because the quality was unreliable....evidently marriott realized it too and is upgrading the courtyard...I have stayed in two recently and they were very nice....they have eliminated the breakfast however which is unfortunate...that is what kept me coming....but a significant upgrade.....and quite reasonable...I stayed in washington dc for $109 a night....AAA rate....but really really a nice hotel

We will never come back to this hotel!!
The overall experience of this hotel was from poor to average. The most unpleasant thing that happened (which happened 5 different times ) was when our room number was asked as opposed to finding out our last name. I felt our safety and security was at risk the entire time we were there. My key did not work one night, I went front desk. They never asked for my id, only room number. Not even an apology. They just handed my key and I left. All I can think of was WOW!! I could have been anybody and I would have gotten a key. Luckily, my husband was with me on this trip otherwise I would have checked out and stayed somewhere else. In all honesty, if this did not happen with my key, I wouldn't have been so criticizing of everything else in my room. It was poorly cleaned, picture frames crooked, mattress pad not the correct size, mattress excruciatingly soft, sheers unhooked to hairs on the bathroom floor. I, myself, work as a hotel manager and thankfully not a Marriott. Count on us to never stay here again. Thanks.

Great staff and good location.
The staff were so sweet and helpful, it seems on a map this place may be far from the action, but you are only a block or two fom all sorts of goodies. The rooms are a great size and the cleaning crew do a good job!

Does the important things well
The Courtyard's rooms have very comfortable beds and, so long as you are not on Connecticut Avenue, quiet. TV's are large, new HD models with plenty of channels. Staff are friendly and helpful. The Metro is two blocks away, and both cabs and busses are plentiful. A Starbucks serves good breakfast and lunch food all day long. Rooms are small but so is the pricer Hilton across the street. The negatives are all small stuff -- limited breakfast choices rather the buffets common to most budget hotels; tiny facial soap and no bath soap; flimsy hand towels; and no in room refrigerator as the Hilton Garden Inns have. But these are minor. We stayed three days and will return next year.

Reasonable DuPont Circle hotel
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. If your trip to DC is based on sight-seeing and using the metro, there are better locations. However, if you want to access mostly DuPont Circle and Adams Morgan, this location makes sense. This property feels like a retrofitted old Days Inn, but the rooms are fairly fresh (clean carpet) and the lobby area is friendly. Our king room was quite small even by DC standards, and the bathroom was really tiny and placed right next to the bed instead of off to the side which grosses me out a little. It was clean so kudos to the housekeeping staff. Great view of DuPont Circle and the (scaffolded) Washington monument. One reason I chose this hotel over a full service Marriott or Kimpton is that the windows open for fresh air and there is nice outdoor space (and an outdoor pool in season). This is extremely important to me when traveling to DC in nice weather. The courtyard area was a pleasant place to relax on a beautiful spring day. Ditto about the staff...everyone was very nice. Another bonus for me was the availability of Starbucks in the lobby.
