Top drawer, everything you need for a perfect break, friendly staff, good prices, comfortable rooms, central location for sight-seeing and decent beer. Only criticism would be that the spa/pool changing rooms are far too small, tiny in fact.

Milton Hill House, exceeding expectations
We stayed two night at Milton Hill House for a combination of reasons, both our anniversary, my partner's birthday but also a family wedding being held locally. We had been advised by the wedding party to try and same in the same local village for convenience but it was all booked up by the time we got round to it and Expedia recommended MHH. As usual I googled and looked at reviews on Trip Advisor which were mixed but with time against us and a good deal avaliable for the weekend we went ahead. Reading many of the reviews on here the majority of mark down has been due to guests staying in the 'Garden Wing'. It's not hard to see why, the house its self is beautiful until you drive round for the additional parking to the right of the house and see the grey block square - The Garden Wing. Now many guests say once in the rooms they are fine, during our stay at the hotel there were weddings on both the Friday and Saturday and it seems the majority of the wedding parties stayed in the Garden Wing, we overheard at breakfast on the Saturday that the rooms had been great so appearances are deceptive. Knowing that I wanted our stay to be the best I phoned ahead two weeks before to check out location in the house - we were based in The Ridings, this is what must have been the stables in years past and has recently been renovated to a very high standard. Just before our stay i also contacted Wendy in Reservations to double check that we hadn't been moved (and also very cheekily ask if we could get any form of free upgrade). Well this paid off as when we got into our room (314) we were gobsmacked - it was beautiful. My partner had a birthday card signed by the manager and we had been left a complimentary fruit platter! There was a large bath in the en-suite, massive wall mounted plasma TV, what i can only assume was a king sized bed and all the other mod cons you would expect (hairdryer, iron, tea making services). Needless to say the in-laws were quite dissapointed they hadn't booked in at the same hotel with us! Now the down sides, although very few - the fan in the bathroom sounds like a boeing jet taking off and takes a while to cut out (automatically comes on when the lights are switched on in the en-suite) the views from 314 are non-exsistant....you are above another section of the hotel and have flat roof outside the two windows in the main room. We slept with the windows open one night and woke up with a start the next day as the fans kick in periodically, however you soon get used to it and don't really notice it. We only had breakfast one day, i'm surprised people belittle it so on here, i could'nt fault it at all. The food was piping hot, a great variety and the staff attentive when serving drinks and cleaning tables. So overall it was a great visit, the standard of the hotel fantastic and what you get for the money you pay - gutted that we didnt get the time to try out the pool although it looked great. The only down side i would say about our stay was the arrival - obviously the house is a prime wedding venue and when we arrived on the Friday a wedding had just taken place, this meant that the guests had filled up the recpetion area and we had to stand in the lobby while they finshed taking pictures, this was not very well controlled by the staff and we ended up having to push our way through the wedding party to check in. Note - we did'nt eat any where locally as prices for pubs in the local area are astronomical - ¿¿13 for fish and chips?!

Great service
I stopped here for a few nights in April on business. The location for me was brilliant as I was only working down the road, but it is located off the main road and very quiet. The rooms I stayed in were located in the rear standalone building, rooms were clean enough for me, but then again I am not that fussy. As long as the bed is clean, and bathroom is clean, it does me. Only downside to the rooms were that they were really hot, even with windows open all night.Service in the hotel was really good. Check in was fast, as was checkout. The restaurant food was really nice too. Shea was very accommodating and knew what she was doing, could tell she will be future restaurant management material given the chance. They always managed to fulfil my fussy needs when it come to my meals, as I am very picky eater and they accommodated me well. With me being on business I was able to charge things direct to my room and didn't have to part with any money which was great and easy.Breakfast in the mornings was really nice again. Full choice of food, from hot and cold, to cereals and toast etc. You just help yourself to what you want.Overall, enjoyed my stay and would return back if working down there again.

Overnight stay
Just returned from spending the night here after a wedding near by. We were given a room at the rear of the house in a small block. Thats what it looked like from the outside a housing block! Initially upon entering through the door there was a very strong smell of damp and our hearts sank! However once we got into our room things got better, the room was a standard de vere room with a comfy bed and a very very large clock in the bathroom on the wall! I suppose thats just in case you needed to know the time while in the shower/bath?A word of warning to you all when you ask the reception to book a taxi for you please be aware there is a surcharge added by the taxi firm and after a 5 mile journey a extra ¿¿5 was added to the ride! Needless to say we did not pay this as we were not aware of it!!After a nice sleep we ambled over to have our breakfast and has to be said it was the best breakfast we have had at a hotel in years! It was a buffet fried breakfast and tea and coffee delivered to the table straight away! Lovely!Dropped 2 stars for the housing block and the added charge to the taxi which we hadnt been told about!

Nice hotel but a little far out
Stayed here in march and was a good price for 2 nights, we stayed in the annex which was next to the main hotel. Bedroom nice with comfy bed. If you pay for your breckfast's on arrival it's cheaper than paying each morning and it was a great way to start the day. We stayed here so we could visit Oxford but was a bit way out. But would stay there again. Had no complaints staff nice and plenty of tea & coffe stations around were you get it free.
