we chose to end our Far North Queensland holiday with a few days in luxury heer before heading home. From the moment we walked into the reception and looked out onto a blue vista of ocean with Dunk Island in the background, we were made to feel special. We had worried that Cyclone Yassi may have devastated the area and it had certainly left its mark but The Elandra had recovered well. Our unit had views from our bed that were magical with magnificent sunrises. The staf were friendly and helpful and the breakfast on the terrace very special. No hesitation in recommending The Elandra although I would say that we were happy to have the hire car which enabled us to travel throughout Mission Beach

I am sorry to report that Elandra Resort is closing indefinitely to holidaymakersTuesday, January 10, 2012 The Cairns PostANOTHER cyclone-ravaged resort on the Cassowary Coast has closed its doors to holidaymakers.The Elandra Resort at Mission Beach is no longer taking individual bookings from tourists and is currently refunding bookings and vouchers.The 55-room boutique resort was badly damaged by cyclone Yasi in February last year and reconstruction work is ongoing.There have been reports of trouble with the resort¿¿¿s insurers.Queensland¿¿¿s Tourism Minister Jan Jarratt said the resort is closing indefinitely to holidaymakers, and the owners will now focus on conferences and group bookings.¿¿¿It¿¿¿s a refocusing and partly the reason for this is that they need the time to undertake the final reconstruction works,¿¿¿ Ms Jarratt told The Cairns Post.LINK http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2012/01/10/200151_local-news.html

I had recently booked this hotel to be told 2 weeks before my arrival that they had suddenly decided to close for refurbishment - this seems a bit suspect to me as their web-site is still takining bookings and I fear there are other reasons for our cancellation - I will visit the hotel when I am there to see if they really are closed

We stayed in the Elandra for a week over the Christmas/NY holidays and found it good but not great. It has the feeling of a place that would benefit from a little more love and maybe a few more dollars thrown at it. The cyclone certainly had a huge effect on the whole of Mission Beach and the Elandra has recovered better than other places, however, there still is a slight unfinished feeling to the place. The bedroom we had was an African Queen Room and I must say we were disappointed when the door was opened. It was definitely smaller than we expected and aside from a few accessories it was really a tiled room with a balcony and a double bed. The bed was very bouncy and on wheels and so not the most comfortable sleep especially for 7 nights in a row.The restaurant is really average. I ordered a sandwich for $16 which was nothing more than one slice of ham, one slice of cheese and two slices of brown bread. I had to ask for mustard in order to jazz it up. There are better restaurants in town where the locals eat for half the price. The staff were very nice. Very friendly and accommodating and full of advice and I couldn't fault them. Some of the waitresses were a little inexperienced but all in all everyone was lovely.We did have a great holiday in Mission Beach but would I come again? I'm not so sure. It feels like the Elandra is just one step away from being great. Get a great chef, bring down the food prices, refresh the rooms and decor and go to the next level of slickness. Train the staff to anticipate rather than react. We would have spent a lot more on drinks if someone came up to us by the pool and asked us if we wanted one. I still think it makes for a great get-away but don't expect the level of service you would get in a 5 star resort in Asia.

the staff is great!!! the location and rooms were great. really relatxing... Staff even advised us to downgrade the room if we wanted a better view (good advice for the view). this only downside was the food (salad not quite fresh and beef too chewy). the chocolate dessert is divine!!! will recommand this resort without hesitation... and looking forward to my next trip there...
