Perfect location
Third time at the Avra. This is a great hotel, near the airport (only 19kms) and Rafina is a ferry port. The restaurant is good and there are lots of others nearby. Rooms are a little worn but the staff and location make it all worthwhile.

Basic but reasonable.
I have stayed at the Avra many times over the years, mainly because it is the only reasonable hotel in Rafina from where to get the ferries across to the islands. It is only half an hours bus ride back to Athens airport which costs only 3¿¿¿. The timetable is by the bus stop and cheaper than 25¿¿¿ by taxi. The Avra is now looking a little worn and in need of an update, and the beds are very firm. The rooms are basic, reasonably spacious but the air conditioning was broken! Even in early May, that meant a hot stuffy night. The breakfast, which is included in the price is definitely not the quality it used to be - the cooked selection was very limited but the continental was very varied and there is no limit on quantity as it is all 'help yourself'. However, if you were a first time visitor and didn't know the ropes, I would imagine you might feel a little lost without any member of staff to guide you. The reception staff are always helpful and pleasant, though they do make it clear they prefer cash to credit cards! Overall, the Avra is OK, but nothing to write home about!

Useful stopover
The Hotel AVRA in Rafina is a useful stopover if you have arrived at Athens International, and want a good night's rest before getting on a ferry to the Greek Islands - more on this later.The ROOMS are a bit cramped if you have much luggage. But clean and tidy with a fridge and safe deposit box. You can choose between "sea view" or "town view" the latter being a bit cheaper. The hotel serves an excellent buffet breakfast which is included in the room price. The restaurant has a varied meny and the food is of high quality. Prices are extremely reasonable, only a little higher than you will pay in town. The bar is well equipped and inexpensive. Overall good value for money. I have stayed here many times but always in low season. Prices were "negotiable", a bit of bargaining is quite in order it seems - especially if there are not many guests. On our last visit in October 2012, we paid 80 euros a night for a room with a town view. REMEMBER this includes breakfast. The hotel is only a short walk to the ticket offices and boat terminals. Boats run to Andros, Tinos and Mykonos, as well as to the port of Marmari on the island of Euboia. I understand that in the summer there are also boats to Paros ("hub" of the Aegean), but you would be advised to check in advance. The Avra hotel is close to the town square with it's many eating and drinking places.I would rate the hotel as "very good". Pleasant staff and well managed.The bus from Athens International to Rafina costs only a few euros and stops by the hotel. NEVER take a taxi unless you are desperate.

The hotel is very clean,next to the beach and the view from the hotel restaurant is fantastic.It also close to the town.The breakfast is very good also.We have been there already three times and we will go again.

Perfect after flight and before ferry to islands
Perfect stay after your flight and before taking the ferry. On walking distance of the ferry's departure. Nice and clean room with view on the port. Noise from the streets was the minus point. 3* is ok. Breakfast buffet was good. Very friendly and helpful staff. After checkout, we saw the ferry was delayed for hours, but we could return to our room, which was very friendly.
