Didn't stay for the night but had lunches there few times.
I live just 5 minutes from Silvermine Resort and been going there for lunch/coffee/dinner for 4 years. I would say that they have improved their service and food quality for over a year now. When I first went there in 2009, it was like a ghost town, No one goes there. Always vacant chairs and tables. I think the most important changes there are the new owner and the staff. They are really trying to make the place to have a resort feeling. Now lunch time is busy, weekend is always full by the coffee shop/al fresco dining. They even have a spa now. Although I haven't tried it yet cause they just opened and Im too busy. I go for lunch there at least once a week to meet with my friends and mummy friends or just to have a coffee break. They have a special of $49 dollars with soup and drinks. This is daily from Mon-Fri except Public Holiday. Its mainly Chinese selection.Weekends- usually they have outdoor buffet or BBQ buffet. Its pricey for locals but if you are on holiday I think its worth it.Selection of Local and International; Beer View- relaxing view of the beach.

Run down at a nice location
I stayed at this hotel for a night to catch an early flight out of Hong Kong. The location of the hotel is perfect: right on a beautiful bay, and only 30 minutes nice cab ride to the airport. The only problem that I see with the hotel is that the place is just run down (it needs a lot of "Tender Loving Care" as the decor hasn't been changed since 1970's....). The bathroom is not upto date on it's cleanliness. Maybe I just had a bad luck and got an unlucky room...The Silvermine village, however, is a place where one can really enjoy the nature and discover excellent sea food restaurants!

Family friendly hotel
An ideal location away from the bustle of Central yet just a few minutes walk from Mui Wo ferry. If you want peace and quiet and/ or have children, this location is perfect. Parts of the hotel are a bit tired and our bathroom could do with a makeover, but we have a super view over the bay, everything is clean, there is plenty of hot water, the enormous bed is comfortable and the dining room is fine. If you are expecting 5 star luxury, this isn't the place, but take it for what it is and you will have a relaxing time. Nice terrace, good pool. Better than many equivalent hotels in Europe.

Great location for nature lovers but needs some upkeep
This hotel is located right next to the beach in Mui Wo, location wise it's a perfect place for those who like to spend walking along the beach or hike up the hills. The hotel itself is a decent size hotel, but needs some upgrading I think, especially the upholstery. Stayed two nights in the renovated wing of the hotel, but I still find the room a bit dated. The check-in was fairly quick, friendly staff, and the food was alright, but the key attraction to the venue has to be its location. There is no free WifFi, unless one buy drinks or food at the restaurant (free access for 2 hours).

It could have been a little paradise...
It is going on my fourth night at the "Silvermine Beach Resort", as the place is officially called, so I decided to write my little review as I wait for the ferry to Central. I am here on a work visa run from the Mainland; a colleague who is also in Hong Kong for the same reason chose to stay in Wanchai. My connection to Lantau is a bit of a personal one, last but not least because of its water buffalo, and I felt that on the Mainland I was surrounded by enough hustle and bustle every waking moment, so I decided to make this my refuge for the 5 days that I am in the S.A.R.From locals, I heard that the Silvermine had been pretty run down and rumored to close, until a new group took over. When I first entered the room, I was disappointed...it struck me as US cheap motel standard at HK pricing. Overall it seemed clean, but the cigarette burns speckling the carpet recounted different times, and just now when housekeeping changed the sheets, I realized just what the mattress looks like that I've been lying on (ew). It seems that altough the wall was redone, the mattresses, carpets and other inventory were kept as they used to be, and I hope dearly that I just arrived in their process of upgrading everything. For HK standards, the room is spacious, and allows for an additional sofa chair and coffee table sitting area at the window. One criterium for me was certainly fulfilled: an ironing board and clothes iron ready to smoothen our my wrinkled suitcase content! The windows cannot be opened. Because my room does not have any sun exposure, it is rather chilly especially at nights (this coming from northeast China me! - It is March now, so still not quite summer), so I refrained from using the airconditioner, which resulted in the room turning so muggy that my clothes actually turned damp. I really wish I could just open the windows to resolve both humidity and temperature problem, especially because the air is so wonderful here. Now, I am switching on the "heat" that takes a long time to kick in...which of course is a waste of energy but at least that way my cothes stay dry and I stay warm.In conclusion, the "Silvermine Beach Resort" and its online presence sound and look fancier than they are, and I hope that they are working on getting closer to the great potential the name suggests. Fears that they will turn into an unaffordable 5-star resort anytime soon, I have not.For a while, I did consider rebooking to the central parts of HK for a more modern and cozy, albeit probably much smaller, room - but I stayed. What also struck me was that although the hotel charges for internet - 100 HKD per day or 210 HKD for three days, Skype is blocked. This upset me, as I have the exact same thing on the mainland: censored internet. I could not just quickly call up my parents back in Europe and tell them that I had made it alright. The phone in my room was also not working - an inquiry at the reception desk yielded nothing but a shrug with the shoulders. I can go to the 7-11 and buy an international calling card, was the suggestion. Four minutes to Germany for 50 HKD dollars - not for a traveler on a budget! If they feel they have to block Skype, then the internet access should really be complimentary. Tomorrow, I will take my laptop to one of the caf¿¿s "downtown", and use their free wireless at a refreshing drink.Other than the generally listless reception desk team (though I did receive a friendly welcome and swift check-in, subsequent requests were met with a sense of indifference), the service team, whether they speak English, Cantonese or Mandarin, is very attentive, friendly, and helpful. One thing that without a doubt cannot be beat is the location: when you walk out of the hotel, you can walk straight onto a beach - a small one, but Lantau boasts many beautiful beaches along the coastline bus routes covering the south, southwest and west of the island. The included breakfast buffet is not something you wake up excited for, but it offers the
