Great Service and Food.
i recently stayed for 5 nights at this hotel. I was there for a Conference and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Firstly the good points. My King Room was spotlessly clean, aesthetically pleasing and had a nice view. The period furniture gave the room quite a luxury feel. There were adequate power points, (although slightly inconveniently placed,) and the bed was very comfortable. The room was also very quiet. The main benefit of the hotel though, was the staff. Everyone worked very hard to please. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the service to be excellent and much better than many five star places i have been. We arrived at the hotel late at night and the person(thank you Amy) checking us in insisted that she move the heavy boxes from the car to the Conference Room. The person cleaning the room did an excellent job and was very accommodating and friendly. The dining staff were knowledgeable about the food and wine and gracious in their service and the manager gave us a discount on the photo copying to save us a 20 minute car trip. I also appreciated the free internet. The food was also excellent and the view across the valley was breathtaking. The Continental Breakfast had smoked salmon and pickled onion, small glasses of yoghurt and muesli, fresh croissants and pastries, local cheeses , dried fruit, a variety of breads and some local cheeses. I did not order a hot dish until the last day and wish that I had seen the hot menu earlier as the two poached eggs and spinach were perfectly cooked. We had four dinners at the restaurant and every one of them was delicious. The hotel has a fine dining menu and while it is expensive, ($170 - $200 for two courses and two glasses of wine each night ) the dining room has food far beyond the upmarket cafe food which is often the norm in hotels , and I do not mind paying for quality. There were a couple of small things that prevented me from giving the hotel an 'excellent' rating. One of them was the length of time the water took to get hot in the shower. I timed it one morning and it was ten minutes. However, i soon got used to turning the tap on and doing something else for a while but it felt like a waste of water. The tap also required very fine tuning to get the water temperature right. However, it is useful to remind oneself that this is a building with a 150 year old history. Another trivial problem was the small expresso coffee machine in the Conference Room. Despite a lot of effort, the staff had trouble keeping it filled and the flavour of the coffee was very weak. I would suggest providing good quality plunger coffee. My only other criticism was the $25 extra (a percentage) that was added to the bill as a Master Card credit card service fee. I know that it is common industry practice but it never fails to irk me (in fact I moved my 25 year allegiance from Sofitel Hotel to Westin in Melbourne because of this affront) and as the last experience that guests have of a hotel, it does not seem to be sensible practice. I know of nowhere else in the world where this occurs. However, all things being considered, I would return - mainly due to the excellent staff, the great view and the lovely food.

Tranquil retreat
I treated my husband to a night at Mt Lofty House for his birthday. We stayed in a deluxe room as part of a scoopon deal. Apparently, the scoopon saved us $299 as we stayed on. Thursday night as opposed to a weekend night. I would definitely not have paid $299 more. It was worth what we paid. We thoroughly enjoyed our night at Mt Lofty House and would definitely go back. The grounds are beautiful as is the view from the restaurant especially on a sunny morning like today. The food was outstanding and the service good.

Take your $300 and spend it somewhere else!!!
My husband surprised me with an overnight visit to Mt. Lofty House as a 'last hoorah' before our second child was born.... and boy was it a disappointment! The grounds are gorgeous and the facilities nice, but our 'spa room' bordered the event space and we were kept awake by loud music and screaming drunks most of the night. The next day I complained about the noise and the reception staff's response was, "Well, it is wedding season and we're busy this time of year." Take your $300 and spend it somewhere else!

Return Vist was good but...
Staying with my partner for 1 night. Have stayed in the Manor View Room previously and loved it!Decided to stay in the Spa View room for something different.Very clean I know people sometimes thing other wise because there can be a blue residue because of the mineral content in the water but we didnt mind.Upon check in the desk was quite busy and we were not given a map of the house as previous but was didnt mind exploring and made our way round.Dinner was lovely as usual with good service and fantastic food. Our room was positioned at the side of the property.I am a light sleeper I requested a quiet room however the lights from the porch were so bright I found it difficult to sleep.I asked TWICE if they could be turned off both times the staff said they would turn off at 12am (did not happen). I called again at 1am and they staff memeber said they went off at 2am (also did not happen). This resulted in a restless sleep for me. Rather disapointing as I very much like the property and holds a sentimental value for me and my partner. Next time I will ask for a room on the other side.I would return again but I hope the staff can be more knowlegable of this.

A Lovely Stay!
We had a scoopon deal which was good value. The hotel is quaint and charming, remembering it is a 150 year old building so we looked past some of the issues that had been raised about the bathrooms etc. Views were excellent once the fog cleared and the bed was super comfy! Food here is sensational, couldn't fault the food or service, very relaxing stay, thank you.
