Nirvana on earth
My husband and I planned to stay at the Oberoi for half of our stay then move to Puri Wulandari (in Ubud) for the second half, but after visiting many other hotels in the surrounding Seminyak area and in Ubud we realized that there isn't another place comparable to the Oberoi so we came right back to it and remained there for the entire 8 days of our honeymoon. The staff here is made up of the warmest and most courteous people we've ever encountered in our lives. Everyone knew our names since the first day of arrival and treated us like family until the day we left. We missed the Oberoi so much after leaving that we literally cried for 2 hours. The property is like a beautiful garden carved out of heaven. It was lush with greens and frangipani flowers, orchids, water lily and lotus ponds, tuberose, banana leaves, palm trees, statues of beautiful Hindu Gods, and the most manicured grass I've seen in ages. The vibe is friendly and warm, making you feel like you live there instead of feeling like it is just a room inside of a hotel. The rooms (we stayed in the Lanai) are like separate condos/villas. You get privacy and at the same time feel a sense of community as soon as you step out into the garden and pool area. The food is superb and so is the service. Boogie boarding in the evening time as the sun is setting cannot be compared to anything else on earth. The most beautiful and vibrant sunsets I've ever seen in the world. I love this place, I cannot wait to go back. There isn't a hotel that I could see myself living in permanently, except this one.

A world apart
From the time I saw our pool villa I knew this would be an incredible holiday. The hotel is located in the middle of Seminyak however makes you feel in a complete different world once you step into the villas which are designed like a traditional balinese cottage. The breakfast options would cater to all palates and the evening high tea is a great opportunity to meet with fellow travellers.One of the best Oberoi properties I have been to.

The Diamond of Bali
The first impression of arriving at the Oberoi in Bali is the space which is of a premium these days in Bali. The grounds are just beautiful, the losman style rooms are solid and placed spaciously around the massive grounds. The whole property faces onto their very own private part of the beach in Seminyak, and you can lay beachfront and enjoy every day and every sunset over the ocean without having to leave the hotel grounds. If you wish to shop or go to the many fine restaurants in Seminyak they are all just a stone throw away via walking or quick taxi for about $2 au! Once you start to reside in the hotel, you feel like you have a more private experience as opposed to being in a hotel that you have to share with another 200 people. At first greeting the staff were very welcoming and over the course of our stay we were just so amazed by the elegance, professionalism, friendliness and humour of ALL the staff at the Oberoi, which really came to the fore when my Husband fell ill with an acute case of Bali belly after eating lunch in a local warung the day before. (something which is a must but which is also advised against. However this is where you can find the best Balinese food, but also one can be just plain unlucky)So during this short, but difficult time the staff were extremely helpful, organising a doctor, appropriate food for his recovery. Even suggestions of various beverages to help his nausea. A special mention here for the fantastic help from the Chief Concierge Ratna, who helped us rearrange everything and emailed out various documents etc very efficiently and the head food and beverage guy with glasses, Anatanda (I'm sure this spelling is wrong) who was a joy to talk to and was so supportive. The management even sent my husband get well flowers and a card. Very cool!The various meals, including breakfast were fantastic. Poolside and beach front you put up a little white flag and within minutes they are there for your requests and nothing is too much trouble. They even cleaned our sunglass lenses for us! Our room was a Luxury Lani "partial ocean view" room which was exactly that, and the best part of this location, to the beach front of the property, was getting the ocean breezes and sound of the waves! Beautiful. The room itself had a huge and very comfortable yet firm bed, light and airy, well appointed fixtures and a great bathroom complete with sunken bath and outdoor mini courtyard with and elegant statue of Ganesh. I stayed in this hotel back in the early 80's and my Brother and his wife stayed there over new year and couldn't rave about it more. It is a timeless jewel like a diamond, perfected in every facet of the hospitality industry traditions, particularly in Bali which is a rare find these days. An experience you'll never forget!

Old world Bali charm and service
The Oberoi is classic, old world Bali- hotel style is classic Balinese, the huge gardens and space are a unique feature and the service is attentive without being intrusive. If you want modern, high rise hotel style this hotel is not for you. But, if you want to meander through meticulous gardens and low rise , classic style rooms then you'll enjoy The Oberoi.Situated next door to Kudeta it is a great spot to go to restaurants in Eat Street or down to Pettitenget or Batubelig.
