It's not worth a penny! Read it completely, then decide
Don't get fool by photos, any of the descriptions or even the 3.5 stars. It is absolutely awful. Even a quarter of a star is too much for this "hotel". Let me start from the first enterance:The hotel is located in a very busy high traffic and polluted area. You'll hear cars passing by and continuous horns even in the midnight. It's not downtown and it's about 20 minutes walk to the first metro station. Nobody speaks English here. The receptionists never welcome you or greet you, only when you're checking in, they may say a few words and that is only about like your deposit or something like that. Then you step out of the elevator and walk into the corridors, you'll see dark nasty walls that probably have never been painted or even cleaned since the building was built, and you'll smell cigarette as soon as you step on the "smoke-free floor". You now enter the room and you'll see that the room is not much different from the corridors, except walls that are not as dirty, but old and cracked. But windows.... You'll never be able to see Shanghai through those fussy muddy glasses. It's like the windows have been burried in mud! Let's make this clear that the smoke-free room smells like an ash tray. We had to ask them change our room and the other room was not as smelly as the old one but it was smaller and much older and despite the fact that we had prepaid for the delux king bedroom on expedia, we had to stay in a small double bedroom for our entire stay. The bathroom is old, and hastily cleaned and you'll definitely notice yellow stains which are now part of the toilet seat as well as black mold on tiles in the shower. The first thing you'll see on the wall of the bathroom is a notice which says the water heater is not capable of heating enough water for shower of two. There should be a gap of at least 30 minutes in between two showers!!!! I need to add that it's not even enough for one lady taking shower. might be enough for guys! and also it's not like that you open the hot tap and you have hot water. No! You open the hot tap and leave it for about 10 minutes untill the water gets warm! And this means you will loose half of your day taking shower!!!Let's get back to the room; the windows are not completely close. There's always a breeze in the room and in the bathroom because of the old windows. I got a bad cold because of that, and my whole trip was ruined. There is an air conditioner in the room which I set to high and still that could not overcome the cool breeze. They clean the room every three day, although if you ask them they'll clean it whenever you want. And cleaning means: just cleaning the bathroom and taking the garbage out. During my 8-night stay none of the towels nor the sheets were replaced. The floor was not mopped, nor the tables where dusted despite all the half inch dust that comes through the windows' gap. I need to add that there's no regulation in this residence. You'll hear people talking loud in the corridor around 2-3 AM, and it's not just one night. You can also hear the next room talking. And also the non-smoking floors are not supervised and you always smell cigarette in the hallways. About the facilities:-Internet: never count on it. It's wired. The lowest speed possible. Preset your mind to not having internet for your whole stay. -TV: never bother turning on if you don't know chinese. And if you do, never bother watching since the image is too noisy!-Hair driers: not in room. You have to ask for it and they give you a small weak one. -There is a safety box in each room. The English instruction is rediculous and if you understand what it says and go step by step, you'll have a locked box that doesn't open. If you want to use it, first make sure you know how it works and try it for a couple of times before you put your stuff in there. -There is no iron in the room. The laundry service is pricy in compare to the quality of their job. Make sure you bring enough washed and ironed clothes for your entir

I have stayed here many times I find it very convenient and really good value for the money . Although the respond time from the staff leave a little to be desired. The internet connection once you get it to work is good.

Gross, Uncomfortable, Cheap.
I wouldn't waste your money. Even though it is really cheap, you get what you pay for and I would have gladly spent double what we paid here to sleep in a nicer room, with the comfort of knowing the room was clean. I felt like my feet were getting dirty even walking on the carpet. There wasn't anything in particular about the stay that stood out as ridiculously gross, it was just the overall experience just made me feel like I didn't want to touch anything. The staff was fine, no praises or complaints, they just weren't a factor in rating our stay here. There was a Starbucks around the corner which we appreciated, but other than that, when we tried to walk around the neighborhood there was nothing anywhere in sight we thought would be a store we'd consider going into. If you're coming to Shanghai on vacation and want to enjoy your time and have the convenience of staying in an area that will have cool/nice places nearby, stay near the French Concession/Xintiandi.

Cheap Motel - Bad Value for Money
I stayed in Rayfont South Bund Shanghai for one night on a trip through China with my boyfriend at the beginning of April. I booked this hotel in a hurry as we were only staying for one night but quickly regretted it the moment we entered the room. The floor in the room was filthy, the bathroom very outdated, and most importantly, THE BED SPRINGS WERE DIGGING INTO US. My family is from Beijing and I have lived and travelled in China many times, so I can easily tell you that this hotel is not a good deal. We only paid ¿¿19 for the stay, which sounds very cheap but for around 200 CNY, you can find a more modern and comfortable room. The hotel was very difficult to find even though I speak and read Chinese so I was not surprised when we saw many foreign tourists wandering around the area with their taxi drivers looking for the hotel (I directed at least three American tourists to the hotel). Please beware that the English name Rayfont is not written anywhere on the hotel itself, which is located inside a residential subdivision, so if you cannot read Chinese, it may be very difficult. Additionally, the hotel staff do not speak English AT ALL, my boyfriend had to rely on me for everything during our stay. If you are looking for a hotel around this price range, I suggest you try Home Inn, a modern and reliable hotel chain that is very popular in China. They should offer a room in Shanghai for a similar price but you are can be sure to receive a comfortable and clean room. Having travelled extensively in China, I expect no frills paying 200 CNY but definitely do expect cleanliness and comfort. Hope this helps.

Cheap and in a central location
Despite the fact facilities are a bit old, mattress was awful and the shower pressure was very low the rest was good. Room was clean, room service maid very friendly and polite, the staff was very helpful and the only time I had problems with internet access they send a technician to solve the problem right away. I'd say it is a price valuable and it's an easy to find hotel since it's located in one main street, the subway is near (15min walk)
