Decent business hotel in quiet area
APA Hotel is a chain of low cost hotels in Japan, and this was the first time I stayed at one. Due to the fact that we were staying for many consecutive nights, we opted for this hotel instead of the usual type of more upscale.I have to say, I was surprised - for the price, it was surprisingly good value for money. The room was not big, but it wasn't smaller than staying at an equivalent room at e.g. Shinagawa Prince Hotel. The bathroom is your standard "unit bath" so it's nothing fancy, but does its job. There is free (wired) Internet in the room, and a widescreen (albeit not very big) TV. We didn't try it, but you could by a "24 hours watch-all-you-can" package for the VOD system and it was reasonably priced.What I do have to recommend against though is the breakfast. DON'T choose the breakfast package, unless you really like simple Chinese food - as the breakfast is served in the Chinese restaurant on the first floor. Basically no Western style food at all on the buffet (very limited buffet) so stay away if you don't like dumplings, rice, and soup in the morning.The location is in the eastern part of Tokyo, right between Sumiyoshi and Nishi-Ojima stations on the Shinjuku subway line. There not much in the neighborhood right next to the hotel, however there are a few restaurants and convenience stores if you walk towards Nishi-Ojima station, about 10 minutes away or so. There is a big park within walking distance, and Kinshicho is only two stops away on the subway, where you can find basically anything.
