Friendly, Cosy and EXTREMELY welcoming!
As a party of five cyclists we turned up at Easington House soaking wet, muddy and bedraggled to say the least! We were really concerned and embarrassed at our state so hosed our bikes and belongings down in the garden and reassured staff that we NEVER make a mess. We needn't have worried as Debbie welcomed us with open arms.Debbie radiated enthusiasm and an overwhelming determination to accommodate guests' every need, making our stay both special and memorable. Lovely touch providing excellent quality coffee in the cozy lounge after the evening meal. Debbie and her colleague (sorry didn't catch her name, little hard-working lady) bounced off each other keeping us entertained and helping us have a good laugh after a lovely well-presented meal.Homemade soup excellent! Desserts spot on!Generous-sized luxurious toiletries were an excellent touch and a most desirable extravagance whilst cycling! We really hope to be back in the area some day and will definitely stay at Easington House again.

Too many issues for comfort
I have spent the last 30 years teaching people to run Hotels, Pubs, etc. This place epitomises all the mistakes people make - all under one roof. A small hotelier should regularly sleep in every room in their hotel to encounter the issues guests suffer, showers which don't work or can't be set, previous guests hair stuck to the tiles, baths which are almost impossible to negotiate without smashing your head on a beam, toilet seats which are loose, TV's which are not correctly tuned, all of which are problems we encountered in our room.Every human being finds it necessary at some point to visit the bathroom for a basic bodily function - why is it hoteliers feel the need to buy the thinnest, cheapest, most functionally useless toilet paper money can buy?? Why offer beauty products for sale if you are going to dilute them?? Why offer cheap and nasty coffee and tea??Trip advisor reviews seem to comment frequently about breakfast not being up to the mark and this remains the case. No training has been provided, service is interminably slow and being constantly referred to as "ma darling" is not at all endearing. The coffee served at breakfast is nothing more than dirty water! Tea and toast can take 20 minutes to arrive - if the staff remember.Evening meals are also substandard. An overpriced menu offers elementary dishes cooked with little skill or flair and presented in the same naive manner. The dishes are inappropriate for dinner and the biggest claim on the menu is that they serve "a real prawn cocktail" - it isn't - like most things in this place - it is a cheap and nasty imitation.Access to the attic rooms is at best precarious, especially with a case or bag, but without a handrail or grab handle it is positively dangerous - beware of rooms 11 and 12!! This place has the potential to be a superb venue which could command ¿¿100 plus per night - but not in its current form. There needs to be a revolution in the organisation to make it a quality experience, not a cash and carry cheap encounter, otherwise customers will continue to leave dissappointed and out of pocket. You have been warned!!

Clean, cosy and comfortable...
Stayed here for two nights last week, with my grandson, on a family history/nostalgia trip (being a Banbury lass originally!).We had no complaints whatsoever, the owner was friendly and helpful, as were all the staff we encountered, the room was beautifully clean and the beds were very comfortable. I ask little more in a place to stay!We ate in the restaurant both evenings...the menu isn't going to set the culinary world alight, particularly as I'm a vegetarian, but the meals were good basic food, well cooked and nicely presented.I doubt if I'll have a reason to stay in Banbury in the future, but if I did I'd choose Easington House again without hesitation.

Good value place to stay
Stayed here for 2 nights in May, a lovely, good value guest house. My only observations - some might find the stairs to the top floor rooms a bit daunting, breakfast could be a bit more imaginative and the answer to the question 'can I have mixed granary and white toast' is not necessarily we have '50/50' that's both!

A Curate's Egg
We stayed for several nights in April having been attracted by the beautiful 17th century building, the central location, their reasonable prices and the convenience of their having a restaurant. The first 3 of these lived up to expectation but the evening meals did not quite hit the mark: a potentially lovely meat pie was under seasoned; accompanying vegetables seriously overcooked but also dry; a panacotta had split and the "Spicy" Chicken wasn't at all spicy; the "choice of home-made ice creams" was vanilla, however we would definitely recommend the chocolate brownie! Having had to pay for the whole of our stay when we booked, I suppose we should not have been surprised when we were asked to pay for our meals each of the 2 nights we ate there . Our room and bathroom were both pleasant and comfortable, apart from mould marks on the bottom of the shower curtain, nice flat screen tv, hair dryer in room. We appreciated having a 500ml bottle of mineral water replaced each day The breakfasts were good quality and plentiful. However there were plenty of reminders that this is a guest house and not a hotel: you are asked to arrive between 4 and 9- they may agree to an earlier time but will charge ¿¿10.However once you are booked in you are given the code to the front door so can come and go as you please. Let down by various notices in the room/guest information which echoed guest houses of yore-charge of ¿¿20 for failure to return key at end of stay; notice stamped on the toiletries in room (a large bottle of hand/face/body wash and shampoo)-leave in room at end of stay, otherwise will be charged full price; no food to be brought in or consumed on the premises: any damage to room will be charged for; at end of stay leave room by 10am mon-friday, 10.30am weekends, otherwise will be charged another night, lessened our feeling of relaxation. In our experience, most places give guests a little longer to vacate rooms. We also felt breakfast times were a little too brief (7.30-8.30 Mon-Friday, 7.45-8.45 on Saturday and 8.30-9.30 on Sunday- maybe this is to encourage you to leave your room on time! Finally all staff disappeared by 9 o'clock at night. It would be a good place to stay if you have to go to Banbury on business. Staff are pleasant and helpful, but it would help if the manageress, who likes to use christian names, could get them right: even though we tried to gently correct her several times on the first day, she persisted in calling my husband by the wrong name. We wanted to love this place but sadly came away feeling unable to.
