Great Location and good value for money
Hi,My family and I recently had a short getaway to Port Douglas. We work in the hospitality industry and found Garrick House good value for money. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the area - we had no idea as we usually stay in Palm Cove. The apartments themselves (we were in a 2 bedroom) were great - everything we needed for a 3 night stay. They were well appointed and quite comfortable.We were only a couple of minutes to the main drag of shops/restaurants and 200 m to the beach.We would stay again.

Ordinary Apartment block in Port Douglas
We took 2 rooms here for a week. Our booking was for 2 rooms next to each other, but on arrival we were offered one room in one block of apartments and another room in another block. The manager said the company had employed a foreign backpacker to take bookings so this caused the problem. I didn't buy that story though. The second room was awful, so the disgruntled manager put us in a ground floor apartment next to the rest of our family. A common stunt in Port Douglas is to "bait and switch" people to different apartments so beware of this. Luckily, the disgruntled manager helped us with the problem and fixed it. He said the group he worked for was 'tricky' and passed of bodgy apartments as luxury. Garrick House is quite ordinary, a block back from the beach but within walking distance of everything. The apartment was basic but passable, quite OK for a short stay. Beware of Port Douglas accommodation and inspect before paying if possible. 3 stars.

Inn in need
This Hotel was ok for the $95 a night we paid. It's a tad grubby, tiles need washing and a good clean behind the fridge etc. The fridge was very noisy and so had to be turned off of a night... and the dripping taps were a bit annoying... oh and the air-con from the ark... sounded like a plane engine on landing.... but the sheets were clean and there were signs that things were being updated within the room. The location was perfect. A very short walk to the beach ( less than 5 mins) and a short walk into town. ( 5-10mins). There is so much to see and do in the area, if all you need is a place to rest your head... then stay here. If you're looking to spend anytime in the room - I'd give it a miss. We had no contact with staff other than at check-in, and the guy was nice.

Garrick House Port Douglas
Our 6 night stay at Garrick House was great, the accommodation is very good with all you could want in the way of kitchen equipment with the added bonus of a washing machine & drier. The location is spot on, 2 minutes from beach & the same to all the restaurants, shops etc. We mostly dealt with the manager Roy Edward who was very friendly & accommodating & told us that the present owners have only been there less than a year and are in the process of upgrading. There is absolutely loads of information leaflets, trip brochures, restaurant types & location situated at the reception area which we found very useful. Our ground floor studio No.2 was ideal for us with only one very small quibble...the cane furniture in the main area needed some serious dusting & the shower area/door could have been cleaner but other than that 5*. If we were in Port Douglas we would have no hesitation in staying at Garrick House again.

Lovely, relaxing stay
We stayed at Garrick house in September 2011 for 3 nights. We had one of the grd floor studio appts and could not have been happier. We arrived without a booking and the manager Heidi was more than happy to help, not only with a room, but also information about the many reef cruises etc on offer. The room was great value, very clean and had everything we could need. It is within easy walking distance of everything, which gave us a break from having to drive and find parking in busy Macrossan street. Despite being close to the main street and beach, it was very quiet and relaxing. We had actually stayed at another property in Port the week before, in close proximity to Garrick House, that looked fantastic on the net, but was very dirty, dark and unwelcoming when we arrived, so Garrick House was a lovely relief. Would definitely stay there again.
