Superb value with all the necessities
Stayed 5 days, one person to a room. Rooms are small by US standards but typical for Japan at this price point. Very small closet with only 2 small drawers so most of my clothes stayed in the suitcase. Rooms have individual thermostats tied to the key card switch in the wall so cooling/lighting only works when you are in the room (and the key card is in the wall switch) but cooled the room down well. Convenient switches for lighting, deep Japanese soaking tub, bidet, small in-room fridge (fabulously convenient), easy access to Shinjuku-gyoen, easy access to 3 or 4 convenience stores (Lawson, Family Mart and a good on-hotel breakfast buffet (there's bacon!!! as well as scrambled eggs, cereal, miso and saba) cover the necessities well. The staff is helpful but is very limited on english. It's a 15 min walk to the Seibusen and 2 minutes more to the east entrance of Shinjuku Station. That is a short walk by Japanese standards. Closenenoug to Shinjuku to be convenient but just a little further to give you a bit of seperation and quiet.

A budget hotel without the budget appearance
Like every other reviewer of this hotel and probably anyone traveling to a new country I was very concerned that getting a moderately cheap hotel would mean a diminished quality of service. My partner and I flew-in to Tokyo from Narita International Airport. We took the train from there to Shinjuku Station and because we didn't know any better, we walked a good few long blocks before we reached the hotel. Little did we know that there was a connection train at the Shinjuku Station that would have taken us to a metro line closer to our hotel lol. Once at the hotel the check-in was pleasant and quick. They understood English and off to the room we went. The room was a tad tight, but it was definitely comfortable for two people. The bed was comfortable and the view from our window wasn't bad at all!The best thing I love about this hotel is the access to the area. We are minutes from a train station, a convenience store, and pharmacy is literally down the street -- and a 5 minute walk from the hotel brings you into the live action of the city. Oh!!! This hotel is one block from the Gay District of Tokyo. I will definitely be staying at this hotel again - budget or not.

My Listel Shinjuku Experience
I was nervous at first about the hotel because I was concerned about 2 things (1) distance from the metro station (2) cleanliness/size of room. When I arrived at Tokyo I took the Narita Express to Shinjuku Station and walked to the hotel, it took me about 20 mins to walk to the hotel from Shinjuku Station ( I later found that there is actually a nearer station - Shinjuku-sanchome which is about 8-10 mins walk from the hotel).I was not difficult to find the hotel, and I stayed there for 4 nights and because the hotel was located at a back lane is was very quiet. The room size was decent, it has everything a traveller would need. I was extremely impressed on how well stocked the rooms was. There is a mini fridge where I stock my beers and drinks I can easily buy from the convenience store down the street. An ironing board, kettle to boil water, hair dryer, slippers, night robes and even a bottle of fabric sanitizer to spray on my clothes/jackets. There is a flat screen TV and a control centre with alarm clock next to the bed. Most importantly there is free WIFI connection. The toilet was not too big but they manage to get a medium bathtub with shower and a automatic "Japanese style toilet bowl" with remote control bidet, and wash basin in so I cant complain. The staff is very polite and friendly always greeting you when they see you. Although they don't speak much English some converse very well in Mandarin.I would definitely come back to this hotel, my stay was pleasent and the rooms are value for money.

Clean Crash Pad in Tokyo
I¿¿¿ll admit, I was a bit nervous and did not know what to expect from the Listel Hotel Shinjuku. I knew it was a budget hotel, and rooms would be tiny, but my main concern was cleanliness. When we arrived at the hotel, I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it was basic and small, but very clean (whew), and fully stocked with everything we could need ¿¿¿ free wifi, bathroom amenities, towels, robes, slippers, etc. The room and bathroom kind of reminded me of a cruise ship cabin if that makes any sense. The staff were friendly, but from what I remember, they did not speak much English. My friend did much of the talking in Japanese. It was a little bit of a pain to find the place at first, but once we got the hang of the location, it was easy to get to and from the hotel. Overall, we had a great stay and I¿¿¿d happily return to another budget ¿¿¿business hotel¿¿¿ in Tokyo in the future.

Great Hotel / great Area
Regarding the price we paid, we were expecting a low-class hotel. Instead, we found a pleasant hotel very well located in a exciting area.Rooms are clean, not too small, and have a WI-FI access included.H¿¿tel staff speaks a fine english.
