Great value, good hotel
We were lucky enough to get a very good week end deal and for the price we paid we probably expected a lot less than we got. We were very surprised when we arrived at how good the hotel is for the price we were charged. Yes the hotel is way at the end of Palmer Street, and it is behind a hotel. But it's still only a five minute walk to the restaurant precinct. The hotel itself can't be faulted. It' s spotlessly clean and modern with all the facilities you need. Staff are helpful and well trained and there is ample free parking for guests and visitors. Our room had a small stove top, full size fridge, sink and microwave. The furnishings and fittings were modern and well maintained. Air conditioner was excellent and there was even a small laundry hidden n a cupboard. Pretty much everything we needed for a short stay. And the price for this? $79 per night. It's hard to machine better value and the Oaks M will certainly be my hotel of choice n Townsville.

Such a bad location
It took me a while to find the place as there are no signs and it¿¿¿s off the road and behind a hotel, it is also a long way from town and the strand if you are walking, there are however a few restaurants and pubs about 10 - 15 min walk away apart from the one out the front.Reception was ok, but I was a bit cranky because I couldn¿¿¿t find the place. The room was good it was a self-contained unit with all that you could need including a washing machine and dryer, a couple of minor problems, there is a small hanging cupboard but no draws to put clothes in and there are no cupboards to put your food in if you are staying for a while. The tea and coffee in the room are of the lowest quality and minimal (If you are like me, the first thing you do after traveling half the day is put the kettle on, bring your own stuff.)The view out of the window was across the top of another hotel and industrial area, including a rail yard, you can see Mt Stuart in the distance, if you are going to stay here get a room out the front, the only problem with that is the noise from the Pub may keep you awake, I could hear it out the back, saying that the trains are very noticeable and run most of the night.The Units on level six were joined at the front door, so you had two Units then another room with a main door, which makes it quite noisy if your neighbour comes and goes all the time.This would be a nice place if it were anywhere else.

Still good
This is my 2nd time staying here for work and I'm still happy with it.We booked through the government provider, AOT, and my colleague and I both got a Mt Stuart Studio for under the Federal Government Budget which we were happy with. The location at the end of Palmer Street is good, away from the noise of the restaurant strip but still within walking distance.The staff were great on check in, very friendly. Same on check out.I agree with a previous reviewer that the little foyer that connects the 2 rooms is a little noisy, no matter how hard you try you can't open and close the doors quietly and I was disturbed a few times by my neighbour.The gym is decent, although small. It only opens at 7am but staff are on Reception at 6 am and will let you in if asked. Too cold for me to try the pool.My room wasn't serviced at all during my stay but I think that had to do with the deal that we booked rather than a lack of effort from the hotel. We will stay again. Ok, for the deal I got.
Front office staff were almost robotic and seem to spend more time out back of reception than actually on the desk. The room itself had double doorway like a dual key apartment which were extremely loud when closing even when trying to be quiet, I was always expecting the neighbours to come out abusing. The TV was positioned too low over the desk which restricted me from opening my laptop, The remote on TV was faulty,The water jug did not fit in the fridge, Cigarette butts on top of air conditioning unit on balcony and the many warning signs about setting off the smoke alarms even when using kettle was a bad vibe. I dined in the restaurant and wanted to take back 1x glass of Baileys to my room for dessert but was not aloud. Anyway, am glad I only paid the $90 per night.

Good for business stays
Stayed for four days on business. Stayed on government rates so I didn't expect a good room, and i wasn't disappointed. Couldn't be bothered complaining as it was only for a few nights. Otherwise the room was clean and serviced daily. Nice and close to the city proper, with plenty of restaurants for breakfast and dinner (hello Cactus Jacks). I'd use again but negotiate a larger room before booking in.
