Decent place given the price.
I imagine this place was pretty flash back in the day. You can catch glimpses of this but sadly not much has been done to it since so is looking a tad worn and worse for wear in places. However for a cheap budget hotel, the pleasant helpful staff, outdoor rooftop pool, free Wifi in the lobby (on the 9th foor...) and included buffet breakfast with good selection makes the Pearl hard to beat for the price. Hard beds but clean linen, lift is incredibly slow though so factor this in, wouldn't pay to be in a rush. Handy location close to transport, the park, shopping, restaurants etc.

New Year in Manila.
Let's start with the positives. The staff are very helpful and the location is in the heart of Manila. Sadly, this hotel needs a serious makeover. The rooms are shabby, often with broken fittings, unreliable air conditioning and poor showers. Sorry to say, I cannot recommend it to anybody.

Cheap hotel, 2nd rate
We were forced to return to this hotel as my work mate thinks it has a great gym, which it does! But that is it, the 2 slow lifts, and rude staff make it a terrible stay. The 3rd worker's lift which is near the internal stairwell hasn't yet been fixed, so they clog up the visitor's lifts.Wifi only works in the lobby near the information desk which you need to reach by the lift.If you book online, check if breakfast is included, as we were caught out, read the fine print, but with Jollibee and Maccas just outside it was fine. You are required to walk through a dark empty arcade to the main road, unfortunately, the doors are locked at 9 pm. which requires a long walk around the block! It is a bit far from Robinson Mall (15 - 20 mins by foot), but close to rail.Jeepneys travel past to go to Divorsia etc.On our final day, we saw staff gossiping about us downstairs with the guard, luckily my work mate understood the language, we were totally disgusted!Never again!

your staying in a 3rd world place, STAY SAFE
Hotel is not the same as you would expect in the UK. However the staff are nice, the best being Chris the local English Speaking Taxi Driver! We paid him 1000 Peso a day to just work for us and he was great, Taxis can be dangerous, he is very safe and worth 10000 Peso a day!!!!Hotel has Hot water, fresh towels, nice staff.I will rate it 5 on this basis, however in the uk it would get 0 stars.Good Location, Good Security. Not a place i would go on holiday, went to help my dad who was illThanks to all at the hotel, very helpfull nice people

Great staff, awful hotel
We stayed a total of 15 nights over December and January period, checking in and out several times when we went out of town. The hotel is not very expensive, however I have paid less for a much better experience. Fantastic staff, friendly and helpful except for one receptionist that would not even look at you while she processed check in/out but she would happily chat away with a colleague about her personal issues. First couple of nights, we had a junior suite. The toilet would not flush and I rang reception who said they were going to send someone. Forty five minutes later, a maintenance staff comes and lo and behold, the toilet flushes so he leaves and says it's working fine. The same thing happened later on that day and they sent an engineer this time who said that it wasn't the flush, it was the plumbing. I said that's fantastic, so it can be fixed then? He says he's an engineer, not a plumber so we had to wait for the plumber who was only available the next day. The engineer's advise was to space out our toilet use until the plumber was available. Hilarious. Another "feature" in the bathroom was a tile that made a slushing noise every time it was stepped on, while it squeezed water all over the bathroom floor, leaving us with a little puddle at the end of a bathroom trip. The next time we checked in, we were given another junior suite in the 12th floor. The whole floor stank of cigarettes as soon as the elevator doors opened. I began to thank the stars that our room did not have the cigarette smell, until I walked into the bedroom where it smelled even worse than the hallway. I rang reception and asked to be moved to a different room. Initially, I was told that there was no other junior suite available. I said that was fine, as long as they gave me a refund because my daughter was asthmatic and to stay overnight in a room that stank of smoke could be fatal. Guess what, they managed to find another room, which thankfully did not smell of smoke. I asked to use the internet downstairs and I was told that it was P300 per hour and that printing was P20 per page. I said I was not going to be any more than 10 minutes, in which case it was free they said. So I ended up using the internet and printing a couple of pages and by the time I have finished printing, the price went up to P80 per page, and yes I did try to argue but nope, there was no point. The elevator.. Oh my God. We used the stairs most of the time for the fear of getting stuck, and the fact that there was at least a 10-minute wait for a service. They had a sign that said they are in the process of fixing them but the whole time we were there, it did not get fixed. My friend's 16 year old daughter got stuck in one of them for about half an hour and she, along with the elevator operator woman, had to climb out between floors 11 and 10, a very dangerous move! The next day, I happen to be chatting to another elevator operator and when I told her about the incident, she said that management had said it was due to overload. Yes, two people, barely 50 kilograms each. Overload. The hotel is about 10 minute walk from Robinsons Ermita. Pretty central in terms of transportation. Other than that and the friendly and helpful staff, I can not say anything positive about it. It's definitely not worth the rates they charge. There are a lot of other hotels that offer much better amenities with cheaper rates. It is not value for your money because I did not see the value part. The only reason we kept coming back was I prepaid my 15 nights just so I did not have to worry about it when I got there. By the end of our trip, we ended up checking in somewhere else and just forfeiting our last 2 nights fees. So not worth it.
