Pricey, but great hotel
I wanted to stay in Santa Moncia, but I found that most of the hotels in the area were really expensive. While this hotel was pricey, they were the only one to offer a great government discount with breakfast included. The staff was super friendly and accomadating. The room was clean and very spacious. The pool was great!! Very quiet and not full of annoying people. The hotel is located several blocks from the pier and downtown and was only a 5 min walk. I though the buffet breakfast was really good with a decent selection of hot and cold items. I would definitely stay here again.

The place to be
The DoubleTree was clean and comfortable. I will stay at a DoubleTree again the next time I travel. The only negative I have is that there are no outlets near the bed so I was not able to plug in my computer and phone but there were plenty of outlets in the other room. The warm chocolate chip cookie was a nice welcome after a long trip.

Spacious and comfortable
This hotel was our first night in LA after travelling from Australia. We were very tired and were pleased at the level of comfort within our suite. The bed was good and the rooms very quiet. The only downside was the lack of proximity to Santa Monica boulevard, but it was an easy taxi ride, so no real problem. Breakfast service was good and the staff helpful. A very good place to stay.

Good location, bit pricey for Doubletree
Ideally located, about 10 min walk to the pier and shopping promenade, easy to find off the main highways. I have stayed at other Doubletrees and perhaps the markup is due to location, but I had an issue with paying $35/day for valet parking. Breakfast in the hotel is expensive, you can find nearby cheaper options. Otherwise, nice stay, nice staff. Pool is outdoors, looked nice, but did not use it.

Good location
Good hotel, good location. Unless you are prepared to pay top dollar for a hotel right at the Pier I would recommend this as a little cheaper option but still great hotel with good service and location. To those thinking of visiting LA and unsure of the area to stay in - stay in Santa Monica and travel into LA the day to see the sights then head back to Santa Monica at the end of the day. Lots happening at the Pier and Third Street prominade, which is nearby. Also very safe area.
