Good and predictable...
Stayed at this hotel for a friend's wedding recently. Room was clean, service was prompt, and facility was well-maintained in general. Parking is under the hotel in a spacious parking garage. All restaurants near this hotel appear to be asian. It feels like a visit to Chinatown and has that general feel along the street. This review should use the word, "auspicious", but my creative writing skills are lacking this evening. Beautiful gardens and room had good city view. I would stay again if life brings me back to San Gabriel.

Huge rooms, great neighborhood
Check in was super quick and everyone was very friendly. My room was huge, clean, comfortable, and quiet -- except for the morning where there were picketers outside (not picketing Hilton, but right on the hotel's sidewalk). I love the location in the mostly Asian neighborhood because there are so many interesting shops and restaurants close to the hotel..

A little dated, but the staff is top rate
Overall, the Hilton San Gabriel is a nice place to stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful, always willing to go out of their way to meet my needs. The hotel as a whole is in pretty decent shape, however the room furnishings are showing a little wear. The surrounding area has a heavy Asian population and as a result the breakfast buffet has both Western and Asian food, creating a nice variety of choices. If I'm in the area, I would definitely consider staying at this hotel again.

Disappointing
The first night I stayed there, I checked in at 3am due to a red-eye flight. Based on my exhaustion, I was hoping to be put in a quiet room. Unfortunately, I was awoken at 6am to the sound of garbage men, who were emptying multiple large containers placed right outside my room. The second night I stayed there, I came back to the room to discover that it had not been cleaned. I turned around to confirm that I had not left the "Do Not Disturb" sign outside and found that I indeed had not. That morning I was again awoken by the garbage men and a few hours later started to hear protesters. As I looked at my hotel room window, I discovered about 30 people protesting right outside the entrance. When I checked out I told the front desk that my room had not been cleaned last night. She responded with an apology, nothing else - no explanation, etc. As an honors member who tries to only stay in Hilton hotels, I thought I might have received better customer service. Not at this hotel.

Clean, Safe and well maintained
The service of the hotel staff was excellent liek you would expect from any Hilton hotel. Other than the small hiccup of my wife finding a smelly yellow stain on her pillow, the hotel handled this problem pretty well by giving us a complementary stay at their hotel. Overall, if you have a car and are visiting LA, this is the place to stay with a quiet and safe neighborhood, tons of affordable restaurants nearby. Just ask for one of the bigger rooms if you booked a king bed room.
