Awesome - you've done it again!
After our last years trip to this hotel we thought that we would choose it again on our next visit to Port Douglas as we loved it then and happy to report we loved it again. This time it was a different experience as we didn't have the kids. We stayed in a one bedroom studio and it was perfect for us. Lots of space, comfy bed, very clean, and we looked over the plunge pool at the back which was quiet and just what we needed for a long weekend without the kids. With the kids I would stay on the lagoon again but for the 2 of us the unit away from the centre was just what we needed to unwind. The weather was hot but we new it was that time of year - to be honest there was a great deal going on flights and the rates were really good so we couldn't resist and made the decision to give it a go - air con was a blessing at times but overall it was not to bad. The staff were so ,as they were last time. One of the staff that was still there remembered us which was surprising and flattering. We did miss the resort feel that the peak season offered on our last stay but overall the stay was relaxing, enjoyable and we loved it all over again. See you next year Mantra Portsea (or maybe later this year!).

Relaxing break
We had a quiet room overlooking the lap pool. The room was clean, the ac was welcomed as the weather was very hot humid and still. We couldn¿¿¿t sit on the balcony at night because of mozzies. Breakfast was included, there was lots of it and lots of options. The lagoon pool was great to chill out in, however I¿¿¿m not sure what it would be like at peak season. The staff are very helpful and friendly. There were burners in the external common areas to keep the bugs away. The wireless internet is NOT free, however there is a computer in the pool room which has free internet access for guests.

Another Port resort with no flyscreens!
Stayed here for six nights over xmas in a two bedroom apartment comprising a very dark hotel room and a larger studio self contained apartment. The hotel room (where the kids slept) only had light when you open the metal louvres, which also let the insects and humidity in. Therefore they stayed closed and the room dark. The studio apartment was well stocked with a large fridge and all appliances a family needs to cook xmas dinner. It is a good 15 min walk to town which got to be a drag in the summer heat / rain. The pool area is lovely but the kids were disappointed that the waterfalls and spas were turn off so early in the afternoon. We had a nice time but would not stay here again.

Stunning set up, fantastic pool and grounds
I stayed at the Port Sea under the previous management in 2003. I loved it then and when I returned to Port Douglas I had no hesitations in re-booking. I was not let down.My girlfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they booked tours for us and arranged for various reservations.I just wish the Pool Bar was open later. It's limited to 3pm-5pm each day which is a shame.Would recommend although this is another Australian holiday hotel which doesn't offer a daily maid service. I feel this should be standard in hotels.

Ok
We recently returned from Mantra Portsea.First I note that it is a perfect location just a short stroll from the beautiful four mile beach and 10 min walk to the main street. Also the 2 staff members we dealt with were friendly. However, we had been expecting some 4 star luxury for a romantic couple of nights, and were a bit disappointed.We stayed in a studio room which was relatively clean but very basic. The balcony meant we could enjoy the warmth outside. Very unimpressed with no housekeeping. From reading previous reviews I understand management see this as a benefit to guests to save costs. We Disagree. You are still paying good money to stay in a supposedly 4star resort and it would always be expected to have fresh towels and the bed made without having to ask. We also would have expected help taking our heavy bags up two flights of stairs. It is a holiday after all! ( and again, we wouldn't expect to have to ask).It was also disappointing that we were not advised in advance that the breakfast room was out of action and instead we would choose cereal in a plastic container and bread for toast wrapped in glad wrap brought to our room. I can see it was a thoughtful compromise but not 4 star quality and we wouldn't have stayed had we known. Like a previous reviewer said, we also had to wash plates and cups to sort our breakfast. Had wanted to avoid that on a luxury holiday.The main pool looks nice and we could see that kids would enjoy. Like other reviewers said, it is too cold though. And very disappointingly for some unknown reason the swim up bar doesn't open on Sunday's.the one afternoon we had planned to lounge around by the pool. I saw an earlier review about this and the response was that low numbers don't warrant it. We paid good money to go to the hotel, we should be able to use the facilities. All in all we enjoyed our stay in port Douglas as we explored the area and the hotel provided a comfortable bed in a convenient location. But I wouldn't return to have a resort holiday at the hotel.
