Fantastic warm service!
From check in to check out service was first class. Warm and highly competent. There was a lack of rigidity and an emphasis on just old fashioned trying to please the customer! So refreshing compared with Osaka Hilton!Room was elegant and clean. Bathroom a little basic for this level of hotel.Room service delicious and fast and good value. Views of castle lovely.

So-so hotel in a good location
I've stayed at this hotel a couple of times, and the main thing that keeps me coming back is the lack of an alternative that really wows me. The New Otani is a very nice, but slightly outdated property next to the Osaka Castle. That location is possibly the best selling point of the hotel, since the park around the Castle is a nice green oasis in the middle of the city. I find it to be a particularly good place for a run, with well tended trails, some hills, lots of steps, and great views. The rooms themselves are fairly spacious for a Japanese hotel. They now have Wi-Fi in the room, which is a long-overdue improvement. It's perfectly comfortable if you're in town for a couple of days of business. For comparison, I'd say the rooms are a little nicer than the Osaka Hilton, but certainly not as nice as the Hyatt Regency in Kyoto.For negatives, I would say the whole hotel has a slightly outdated feel. The staff is okay, but not particularly friendly or helpful. There is no direct shuttle to the airport, their advice is to take a taxi to the Sheraton Miyako, and take the bus from there. The breakfast buffet is mediocre, with very little fresh fruit or variety (I was scolded for taking an apple, which they said was for decoration only!). The gym is small, cramped, under-equipped, and costs 2600 yen for guests. And the location also has its downside: the hotel is also next to the Osaka Jo convention center, so the rooms with a view of the castle also get some noise if there are crowds outside the Jo.All in all, I'd say the hotel is fine for business travel, but could easily be replaced in my lineup if I find a better alternative.

Great location, but location could be better
Although the hotel is next to the Osaka Castle and with direct access to the beautiful park, it is located in a very quiet office neighborhood, with no shopping and limited restaurant offering. Also access to the airports and train stations are either taxi or metro (loop) ride away. From Kansai you can take JR's express to Tennoji and then change to loop line. Hotel is about 6 stops away, next to Osakajokoen station. Rooms are great, views nice if you get the park side, Internet complimentary and the breakfast was really good. Overall great place to stay.

Lived up to expectations!
My friend and I stayed at the New Otani for five nights this April and everything about the hotel lived up to our expectations. We arrived via the airport shuttle from Kansai which was great value at 1500 compared to the 15,500 you're looking at for a taxi! As soon as we got off the shuttle, a member of staff was there waiting to greet us and have our luggage taken up to our room.Check in was a great surprise since initially the lady seemed to have a concern. It turned out they couldn't provide us with the non-smoking room we had requested because our stay was during a busy holiday week in Japan, which also meant all the twin rooms were unavailable. Consequently we were upgraded to a bigger room with a beautiful view of Osaka Castle at no extra charge; as for being in a smoking room, we couldn't tell at all so it was perfect.The staff were extremely polite, always happy to help with any queries and their English was very good. With regards to the location, I only gave 4 out of 5 because being in the business district means being slightly away from the thick of things which some people may not want but personally I was more than happy! There's a train station and an underground station within easy walking distance so you can go anywhere you like with ease. We took a day trip to Kyoto to see Kinkaku-ji temple and then on to Gion (highly recommend both!) using public transport and it was simple. All in all I see no reason not to recommend the New Otani and I would certainly stay again.

The cleanest hotel have ever been
Hotel with an excellent view of Osaka castle. Very close to tube and railway station. Staff is excellent, breakfast choice is very good. Bedding changed every day was crisp and immaculately ironed. Nice restaurants within walking distance. The only shame is that most of the restaurants would close early
