I have stayed at the Great Southern Hotel or Hotel Enterprize in Melbourne, two times in the past 12 months. The first trip was a twin room, the room needed updating and a extra attention to cleaning, but over it was good. The second trip I was in an upgraded King room, it was fantastic. I had breakfast in the adjoining restaurant, not great for the price.I also had dinner in the adjoining restaurant, it was their first night opening. So I guess they had teething problems, the menu I was given was slightly different from the ones the chef had. My menu had 2 options for bruschetta - I ordered tomato and onion I got Eggplant. They apologised and then I did not have to pay for it. Overall it was great service from all staff at both the motel and restaurant.

I thought I might try a cheaper hotel to stay in close to Southern Cross train station in Melbourne so I booked a room at Great Southern Hotel - about 80 meters away from the station. It was cheap and the room I had was big with 2 queens size beds. The linen was clean & so was the towels. It's not a new place so don't expect too much. TV reception wasn't too good but good enough to watch for a while. The staff at check in was efficient & friendly. I'll sleep here again for a quick stop over.

The rooms are quite old/out of date, bathroom was filthy. TV was old, only had about 2-3 working channels. Needs a lot of TLC! Location is good though - close to Southern Cross station and heart of CBD.

the hotel is perfect location as it is near southern cross station and 15- 20 min walk to cbd. however the rooms and service were very disappointing. reception staff on arrival unhelpful. we had previously requested early check in as arrived at 6:30 am but staff were not helpful or did not try to accomodate at all. when we went to our " deluxe double room", dust and dirt everywhere in room, no main light, mould in bathrooms, fingernails and cigarette butts outside the window. poor tv service also unable to see screen. normally I wouldnt be fussy about this type of thing but since we had paid extra for a double deluxe room we expected more!

We booked this hotel with flight center, and it was " The Hotel Enterprise", when we arrived from NZ, we were horrified, the reception and lobby was nothing like what was in the book or on the internet, as we checked in we were informed that new owners / management had just taken two weeks prior to our arrival. We were traveling with a 8 month old, and a 6 year old, we were given a disgusting run down Courtyard room, which was out of the way in the corner of the building next to the housekeeping storage . There was no restaurant, at that time as it was getting renovated. Our room was full of fleas, our baby was eaten alive. We notified reception and straight away they had us a new room , not a courtyard one. And were very embarrassed about it all, and were going out of their way to help us. The new room was much cleaner and nicer, unfortunately we had only 2 days in it,( we should of spoken up about how disgusting the room was earlier, then maybe our baby wouldn't of been eaten alive by fleas in his porta cot).Okay so all in all our stay was poor, but due to no fault of the new owners/ management, which were very helpful, polite, and were trying their best during a take over.All I can say is thank goodness, it has been taken over , otherwise it would be a condemned building by now.
