Montmatre Sacre Coeur - a fair walk uphill
The hotel should really be called Mercure Place Clichy because that is where it is.It is typical of town centre location Mercure hotels. For traveling around Paris it is reasonably well located. We chose to pay for a room upgrade and have a view over Paris. The room was attractive and spotlessly clean but the view was disappointing

Good value and ideally placed
I stayed at the Mercure for the weekend with friends . The hotel is easy to find and the staff are friendly and approachable . We were given upgraded rooms as they were in the process of refurbishing the standard room ... we were given a room with a view that included the eiffel tower . The rooms are large and comfortable and clean . The management should use the alcove by the window for the table and chairs as it was great place to sit and watch the parisian world go by ( with a bottle of wine !!) Minor grumbles .... if you are staying for a few night ask for some proper cups for the coffee etc . The paper ones dont last and the WIFI although free and fast isnt very reliable as it keeps dropping off even if you are still accessing it Not very helpful if you are having to work .

Small, comfortable; Reasonably priced for Paris
We booked in advance so we were happy with the reasonable price compared to our last visit to Paris in a more upmarket hotel on Left Bank. We arrived by train from London so a handy location. The lobby is a bit dated but that's fine with us...more important that the staff are welcoming and the room clean & comfortable - which it was. Also a good location for the interesting Montmartre area...turning left from the hotel takes you into the neighbourhood with beautiful Architecture, Boulangers, fruit shops, cafes (loved our breakfast at cafe on cnr across from seafood shop - "Pain..??), restaurants, cobbled lane ways etc. Turning right takes you down to the usual fast foods, neglected buildings, sex shops, traffic & smog (especially with so many smokers) etc., so...it's right on the border of tacky but doesn't feel that way once you sort out what you want from the area. The room was a standard/smallish size with a small window overlooking rooftops-all ok. Wi-fi free but dropped out a lot in our room at end of hall. Decor...had character with a modern black/red "moulin rouge" feel. Usual fresh white linen...some towels a bit thin. Everything you need was provided especially the coffee machine...v nice as our next hotel (more expensive) didn't have that. I asked one of the staff about information related to their brochures (on display)...his English was limited & my French even worse so I gave up on that idea. Their brochure on "free walks" with a guide turned out to be quite clear & it was an excellent introduction to the area although we thought the breakfast place we found ourselves better than the one she suggested. We took the metro into the city one evening - it was a bit confusing so if you're unsure, might be worth asking at hotel about what line to take as ticket-master had no English. We finally worked it out so all good fun really! Hope this info helps someone & you have a lovely time in Paris like we did. Thanks to Mercure too!

A sure address for Paris
Paris is one of those cities where finding a "decent" hotel at a reasonable price is always an issue. It's a very exciting city and, unless you have special reasons, you expect not to spend too much time in your room. You might then think that it is not worth paying over 300 euro on a room you will barely use.On the other hand you want something nice enough to feel welcome when you enter your room after a full day of sightseeing, walking, shopping and visiting..I travel to Paris every year, at least twice a year and have been testing many hotels, from 3 up to 5 stars. And I always had some problems. Room size, quality of the furniture, cleanliness, noise, bathroom, price-quality ratio and sometimes even security.Last December, because I had a conference close by, I chose the Mercure Montmartre Sacre-Coeur hotel. The neighborhood is not the fanciest one, but it is anyway really close to some highlights of the city that most of the tourists want to visit (Montmartre, the Moulin Rouge).More important, there is a Metro station almost down the building with two metro lines (2 and13) that can bring you on the Champs Elysees in 10 minutes.I also walked from the Opera to the hotel in less then 20 minutes.Coming to the hotel itself, be aware that there is a huge difference between the standard rooms the superior ones. Mainly the standard ones are the "old" ones, coming from the '90s while the superior ones are recently renovated. The first time I was there I booked a standard one but upgraded as soon as I saw the huge difference (difference of price is usually between 15 and 30 euro per night). The room is spotless clean and quite bright. The bathroom is large enough and really nice. Toilets are separated from the bathroom. There are not so many toilet amenities true to be said. The very basic ones of Mercure hotel, with their horrible soap bar made like Lego bricks. There is a coffee machine with free coffee and tea bags. TV is a 32'' screen. There is a minibar, which is empty, allowing you to store there whatever comes to your mind for much cheaper (there is a minimarket right in front of the hotel). There was only a bottle of complimentary water, which is a nice touch. There is a safe that can easily fit your laptop (up to 13'') as well as your belongings.Internet connection is free of charge by WiFi and is working very well. The bed is large and comfortable. Lights are nicely designed to be efficient without being too bright. Two main minor downsides are connected with the wardrobe. There are no doors and things hung there in full view. And there are no drawers.A very special mention should go to the staff. All of those I had the chance to meet are nice, professional and helpful people.Doesn't matter what you need, an information, an umbrella, a request. They have always been really nice and helpful and always with a smile on their face. When I was there in December the first time, I forgot my mobile phone in the safe, an Iphone 4S.When I called the day after the phone was in their office and they kept it for a month until I sent a friend of mine to pick it up.Really, the service standard of this hotel has been always outstanding each time I have been there.
