Not bad
I arrived at the hotel with my family at roughly 2:45pm, as we were told that before 2:00pm, it wouldn't be possible for us to check in. However, once we got there, there was a small crowd of people in the lobby due to the fact that the rooms hadn't been cleaned yet and we would have to wait. We were given a free drink voucher each, so we went downstairs to the caf¿¿/restaurant to have a nice cup of coffee. After about an hour, our rooms were finally ready, so we took the (very small) lift upstairs and eventually got to our rooms. My parents went into their room straight away, but when my sister unlocked the door to our room, there were bags on the table - someone else was already staying in the room! The woman occupying the room came out to talk to us for a bit about the mix-up and so we went downstairs to ask for another room. It didn't take long before we were given the room opposite to the one we were originally allocated to, and we double-checked for any other people in this one!The beds were fairly comfortable and the showers were very easy to use, unlike some hotels where I spend about ten minutes trying to work out how to change the temperature of the water. However, there weren't very many toiletries provided: towels, shower gel, conditioning shampoo, a tiny bar of soap, toothbrushes and two glasses, so if you need to cover up your hair when showering, make sure you bring your own shower cap. There was a television in the bedroom, which you could access the main channels on for free, and a wardrobe, in which there was a fan, which we found very useful as the it was quite humid, and an extra towel, as there was only one in the bathroom. There were tea bags, mugs, drinking glasses, sugar & sweeteners and a kettle provided, so we simply bought some food the day before and had a lovely, lazy breakfast in our rooms. The most enjoyable part of my stay here was the Games Room, in which there was a table tennis table and a foosball table, and I spent most of my morning here competing with my family. However, I didn't use any of the other facilities, which included a gym, a pool and a spa.

spa day offer
went to the great Danes recently having found a spa package offer online, and found it to be very good value for money and a real nice treat. we had 2 lovely treatments, the spa girls were fantastic. we chose the spa package with an evening meal included. we had read some previous negative reviews and wondered what we would actually get for our money, but I am glad to say we were pleased overall. the swimming pool itself and the changing rooms are a little dated and yes could do with a tidy up, and the changing rooms did become quite busy and could have done with a cleaner keeping on top of things, but apart from that minor detail, we really couldn't find anything wrong. jacuzzi was popular, and there were children in the pool, so if you want an adult only, high class retreat kind of spa day it may not be the best choice, but for a good value for money, a nice swim and some treatments, its great. The evening meal was just wonderful, such a lovely plate of food, cooked well, looked like something from masterchef, attentive staff and lovely restaurant with views of the gardens. we did feel a little underdressed as a function was on at the same time, but would really recommend this to anyone, for a nice treat.

Business Stay - Rooms Too hot!
My husband and I stayed here for one night as meeting a business friend for the evening. We only stayed in the hotel as visited the local village of Bearstead for a meal, which has a few good restaurants. The hotel looked a little dated, with many of the guest appearing to be elderly, however this should not put someone off staying. The receptionist was very polite and even asked in the event of a fire would we need any assistance leaving the building, this in itself was excellent as had never been asked this before and would have been key a few years back when the fire alarm in a hotel went off and I could not get down the stairs as had injured my knee! very frightening!!!The check in took quite some time as only one member of staff and the room (exec with lake view) was nice size and had a nice touch of a coffee machine, the bed was huge a super king and extremely comfortable, however the room was let down as it did not have an iron or board and was far too hot, due to no air conditioning and the windows only able to open a couple of inches. Such as shame as I would have stayed there again if they had air con. Unfortunately did not use the other facilities of a pool, bar, restaurant and even a hair salon!

Ladies Festival 2013
Attended event and stayed over night. Three course meal at event great along with breakfast. Room had everything you could want except a little on the small size. We didn't use spa, pool or sauna as short on time so unable to comment.

Distinctly average hotel
Recently stayed on here on business and have done so on several occasions in the past. The hotel is well located, but it is looking very tired and all of the bedrooms I've occupied on each of my visits has been sadly lacking in basic decorative maintenance and upkeep and the furniture and equipment has generally been tatty. On this last visit, the bedroom floor and infact the whole of the landing area creaked like a 17th century sailing ship. The bathrooms are really dated. There was a lack of hot water in the morning and the shower head over the bath is not height adjustable and only protruded half way up my back. I was really shocked to learn that this hotel is rated as 4* when the quality of accommodation, food (which is very bland and overpriced) and service is well below what I would expect of such a rating.Overall, the hotel is average at best. There are lots of other chain hotels close by and I'll be trying one of these on my next visit to Lenham.
