Dated
The Stamford Grand does a great job at selling itself in advance, with us being quite excited at the prospect of staying at this resort with gardens and pools. The reality is quite different. From the outset, it was apparent the hotel was geared to coach parties rather than being ideal for a couples getaway.The hotel for us appeared dated at every level: rooms, outside areas, and communal areas. The rooms are disappointing given standards experienced elsewhere at major chains in Australia. we was given a ground floor room with a view of the tailpipes of various Fords/Holdens. We did ask to be moved and were told it would be subject to an upgrade fee, we as a principal we do not buy into. Dark and with dated facilities. The room was also noisy with the comings and goings of a large tour group throughout the night. Also, we did struggle to communicate with the reception staff, who it became apparent were fluent in Cantonese, but restricted in English. A customer facing role requires an ability to communicate clearly and without confusion in my opinion.The outdoors pool appeared dank and was not used during our stay.We did not eat at the hotel but did have some pre-dinner drinks, which came from a limited menu and took a while to be brought to our table.Overall, unless work or visiting students brings you to the area, I would suggest there is better on the market for the price. A cab ride to Darling Harbour proved very expensive.On a positive note, the large pub/hotel across the road was cracking!

Needs updating
I stayed at the Stanford for one night. I chose here as it was close to where I was working. Whilst the staff were all very nice, the rooms were quite dated. I recently stayed at the Quest on Dehli Rd and for a similar price you get a more modern hotel.

Fun Little Get Away! Big Indoor & OutDoor Pools!
We have stayed he a few times and have found it to be a nice relaxing rest! A large property that has a huge outdoor pool and spa, there is also a big indoor heated pool! The Stamford Grand also has a Gym on site with a tennis court.We just loved our spa room that over looked the tennis court, The room had a King bed, desk , table and chairs , large wardrobe and kitchenette. The room is a very soft elegant feel.Dinner at the Captain Cook's Restaurant is just lovely! Many Yummy dishes to choose from! The Tempura zucchini flower filled with four cheeses are a MUST! We over all where very happy with our stay!

Disappointing
We were looking for a room for one night that was close to Macquarie University. The hotel looked good on paper but the room, while comfortable, felt seriously dated. I would have probably rated it three stars if it hadn't been for the issues below:For a start, when booking we had expressed a wish for a quiet room. The room we were given was not only facing the traffic but was situated just over a garage door which was actually quite loud whenever it opened and closed. Let's just say that we were woken up a few times during the night.In addition, the movie feature on the TV was not working and the staff were slow to investigate the issue and never fixed it. On the bright side, the staff member who kept our bags for a few hours after we checked out was very helpful.I feel that for the same price (or less) there are much better hotels in Sydney.

Saturday Buffet dinner at Stamford Grand
We were looking for a good restaurant for a birthday party inviting 38 people. This was a big event and we needed to have it on a Saturday in a good upmarket restaurant. After making many inquiries, we found the best location to be Stamford Grand hotel at Herring road, North Ryde. We found the seafood buffet at Stamford on Friday and Saturday nights is very reasonably priced.First we requested to have our tables arranged on the corridor away from the food serving area to have more privacy. We were told it is difficult to lay tables for a group of 38. But when we came to the hotel on Saturday, we found our three tables placed exactly where we wanted them. We also found that our group is entitled for 18 bottles of free wine served throughout the dinner. We have to thank Nick, who was in charge of the dinner arrangements. The service was excellent. Being a buffet dinner, our guests selected their own food. The girls serving our area were very prompt in removing empty plates and going round filling the wine glasses. We have come to this hotel, two years ago for a similar function. This time, the food selection was better and had more variety. There was fish, oysters, calamari, prawns and blue swimmer crab for sea food lovers, everything cooked to perfection. The salad bar was somewhat limited, but there was antipasta including processed egg plants and artichoke hearts. For meat lovers there were enough choices to select from. I liked the lamb curry prepared more like an Indian curry that is normally served with rice. For deserts, there was a limited selection of fruits and cakes. Coffee had to be served from a machine, not the best, but good enough to serve a large group. Buffet opens at 6:00PM and closes at 9:30PM. I would have preferred to start around 7:00PM and go on till late. We were reminded that buffet tables close at 9:30PM. Our guests were in no hurry to leave. I talked to Nick and he kindly agreed to allow us to be there till about 10:30PM. In summary, it was a good dinner party and all our guests had a good time. I got very good positive feedback from all of them. I can recommend this buffet dinner for small groups.
