My husband, mother and I recently returned from Port Douglas after a 10 night stay at Oaks in a 2 bedroom apartment. This was the second time my husband and I have stayed there having spent 10 nights there in 2012. Traveling with mum, we booked a 2 bedroom apartment to give us all space and privacy. We also upgraded to a swimout as we prefer to go straight from our room to the pool. Our apartment was clean, spacious and we had all the things necessary for a great stay. The Oaks is out of town which suits us as it is generally quieter and we hire a car to get around anyway but for those concerned, the shuttle runs from next door at the Ramada on a regular basis. There is no onsite restaurant but we went to the Ramada for breakfast and dinner on a couple of occasions as well as self catering and eating in town. The BBQ area is well set out and it's nice chatting to other people traveling through from different parts of the world while cooking dinner.We can't fault our 2 visits and would recommend to anyone traveling to Port Douglas to book an apartment for their stay. Our best tip is to get a room on the sunny side as the pool is always warmer for swimming.

We booked The Oaks Lagoons as we had previously stayed at two other Oaks Hotels, in Sydney and Auckland New Zealand and were very satisfied and the Lagoons didn't disappoint.We were given a two bed. top floor appartment, which was fitted out with everything we could wish for. The apartment was serviced on a weekly basis and in between we found the apartment very easy to keep tidy and clean. Everything was provided, even dishwasher sachets and washing machine powder in the 'starter pack'. It was also really appreciated that on arrival after a long journey from UK, even though it was mid-morning, we were told our apartment was ready for us to move into and that everything was supplied so that we could have a much needed hot shower and cup of tea! We found the reception staff so helpful, especially Tina, We had lots of help and advice in finding our feet in the resort and area and booking excursions.We also noticed that the BBQ area was always kept clean and pristine and the gardens and lagoons were beautifully kept and maintained. The position of the Oaks Lagoons is such that a very short stroll through a quiet residential area and very soon we were able to walk along Four Mile Beach, which we did often and found it a very pleasant way to get to Port Douglas Town. More often than not we would get the little shuttle bus back to the hotel and very rarely had to wait very long for a pick-up. There are many cafes and restaurants in Port Douglas itself and the food was, freshly cooked, well presented and delicious. Altogether a very nice place to stay in a lovely area.

I booked into a 'Swimout' room at this resort for my teenage daughter and I for 3 nights over Easter 2013 as a special 'mother-daughter' treat. The resort looked terrific on the website, and the swimout room also looked terrific. Lots of glossy pictures giving the impression of an upmarket resort and upmarket accomodation, accompanied by lots of clever sales rhetoric. The swimout room I booked was the most expensive room booking within the resort. Upon arrival at our room we were almost knocked over by the overpowering smell of mould. Also, every flat surface in the room was covered in thick dust. The room itself and furniture was 'tired' and old looking and the bathroom was tiny, mouldly/dank smelling, old fashioned, and the shower door was rusted to such extent it could not be closed. I spoke to reception staff about the problems with the room but I was met with disinterest, lack of concern, and was duly informed that a previous long-term occupancy was the reason the room 'smelled badly' and was in need of repair. I was not offered a different room, nor was I offered an apology or any form of compensation for the room being in such a state of disrepair and being nothing like described on the website, nor anywhere near reasonably acceptable. Perhaps paying for the room up-front had an impact on the staff response to me regarding the issues I raised, they simply were not at all interested. Consequently, I definetely would not recommend anyone book into this resort. It was very disappointing, to say the least!

Arranged for this 2-night stay through my credit card points program. In the past, the results of using the program have been great; this was very much beneath their standard. The furnishings were worn, the window coverings hanging crooked. Despite the heat outside, the air conditioners were not on in this one-bedroom unit; only ceiling fans. The worst part was the odor in the lounge/living room area, which rendered that space unusable.

I was some what leary about renting an apartment style room on my stay in Port Douglas. In the past I have only done traditional hotel stays. I was more than pleasantly surprised by how nice our accomodations were!! They were super clean. The set up was perfect for us. I needed my own studio, but since I was traveling with another couple, we wanted to stay close but not together. We each had our own apartment. I had a studio and the other couple had a whole suite. There was a outside door leading from outside. Then when you enter there is a small vistibule with two more doors each leading to our own apartments! Both apartments over looked a pool and had a balcony that was shared, with a jacuzzi tub! I would do it again and highly reccomend it to anyone looking to stay in the area. At Oaks Lagoons we met Helen who works in the lobby and could not have been nicer to us!! She was so helpful and genuinely nice. Wonderful person. Since there is no place to eat at Oaks Lagoons Helen reccommeded we go next door to the Ramada Inn. They have a restaurant that serves breakfast/lunch and dinner. The wait straff is excellent there and they could not have been nicer either. There is also a shuttle bus that you pick up at the Ramada that takes you all over for $5.
