Compact but Comfortable
Stayed for 4 nights in June for work as had a conference there. The room was on the smaller size, but sufficient for 1 person. It had a good comfortable bed, good sized desk and a single chair. The bed was made up with a doona but no sheets - more eurpoean. This would have been OK if Melbourne was colder, but it was slightly warmer than you'd expect so I had to try and turn the A/C down. Trouble was the best I could achieve was 22 degrees (set at 20) and it was too hot for the bedding. The A/C made the room a bit dry for me. Had disturbed sleep as a result.The bathroom was compact but done well - very nice. It had a timed sensor light so no need to find the switch in the middle of the night. Towels were changed daily (even when hung up). Shower head was generous. Water temperature good but not blistering hot. Good hairdryer in drawer. Toilet was close to shower entry so after you'd showered you did have to step in splashed water to use the wc but I just left the mat down.The mini bar was average in terms of choice, but prices good (cheaper than 7 eleven). Ipod dock in the room came in handy for charing the phone when my cable broke. Took my own optus wi-fi but couldn't get optus signal in the room very opten.Absolutely no view - just wall opposite, and from level 5 still couldn't see the sky up the narrow court. Room service was good. Meal nice and portions good, arrived in specified time and cost was acceptable. Breakfast in the restaurant was a standard buffet. Nothing to rave about. Choice of 3 or 4 juices. MYO coffee machine. Choice leaf tea or bags. About 4 cereals and selection of dried fruits to top them. None of the cereals was what I'd eat normally. Good array of fresh and tinned fruit, yoghurts and bircher museli (a little sweeter than I was used to). A few pastries to choose from. Toast machine coud have been turned to darker. Bread was nice. Hot buffet changed a little each day but the usual suspects. Location worked for me.. couldn't complain.Would consider this hotel again if just for a short trip.

'Shocking' Experience
Although this review if titled shocking experience out actual experience was not that bad. Staff at this motel are very polite, very helpful and professional and the reception area is lovely. The room we stayed in was not really in keeping with the reception area and the Superior room we stayed in looks bigger on the web than it is in person to actually stay in, however when your out all day and only there to sleep it is fine. They only have a few rooms with baths in so if you are after a bath you need to make sure you ask for a room with one, if available.Shocking.... where does this come from... well, I turned off the bedside lamp and the switch gave me a little zap. Not ideal for a lamp that had been safety checked a month earlier. Staff were very apologetic about this.The walls is our room, especially by the bed had dirty scuff marks on it. The bathroom was very small and there was black mould on the glass screen sealant in the shower base.All in all not a bad experience but for the small room, the shock and the mould.

LOVE THE CHARACTER OF THIS HOTEL
We stayed for 3 nights at the Rendezvous late May 2013. Had read conflicting reviews on this hotel, so was a tiny bit apprehensive. But ... it was great, room on 9th floor was quiet, smallish but suited us (our ensuite is roughly the same size as the bathroom, so no problems there). Great location being so central & close to the city centre, etc. We were warmly greeted, but as we were early our room wasn't ready (so stored our bags & went walking!!!) Loved the bar staff (so welcoming and friendly) when we went for a drinkie in the early evening. Only let-down was the restaurant - they really do need to improve. Also, check your bill at the end of your stay as we were charged for things that we did not eat/drink, but it was sorted. Overall, we would definitely stay at the Rendezvous again.

Nice exterior and shared areas, helpful staff - rooms okay
The hotel's initial impression is great, lovely old building, lobby etc. Staff pleasant and helpful, breakfast was good. Rooms are quite small and have been refurbished, although not in keeping with the style with the rest of the hotel, and perhaps some fixtures and fittings look a bit cheap.Big thumbs up to the housekeeping and reception staff - we left our iPad in the room and one we phoned it was chased up and found immediately. Thanks.

Avoid at all costs
We stayed mid week at this hotel & despite reading all the bad reviews thought they might be unjustified. They definitely weren't! Rooms the size of the double bed, and thats it, no light as window blocked by bathroom, charged $61 instead of $25 for parking because of a clerical error which they weren't able to fix. Overall I've stayed at hostels far better than that. The only thing that is 4.5 stars is the appearance of reception.
