Steady on chaps!
I chose this hotel on the basis of it's proximity to the university of Melbourne as I was in Melbourne to do a continuing Ed course. It was only after I booked that I looked at the reviews on tripadvisor. Having read some of the reviews I arrived at the hotel with some trepidation.Contrary to the opinions in some reviews I found the hotel excellent for my purpose. The staff were courteous and efficient, the room was quiet, comfortable, and modern. Breakfast was substantial and tasty, with a nice view over Lincoln square. I was particularly grateful to the hotel for allowing me to leave my hire car in the carparks all day for no extra charge despite the fact that I had checked out early in the morning.

Great bargain stay... Great quality & fantastic buffet!
Really happy to stay here (& have before), but unfortunately the hot spa I was looking forward to wasn't to be. Maintenance need to look after this better... Half full and luke warm. Much better by morning after filling it myself and pumping up the heat!

Great location and value
It was ideally located. We needed to stay in the city and near to the University. Room is very spacious and tidy. Very close to Melbourne city too. You can either walk or take a tram about 3 stops away. We were assigned a room facing the courtyard which is good as we requested for a quiet room away from traffic noise; We too signed up as priority guest rewards and realized that our check out time is later then normal. Wonder if the bed coverings can be cleaner as the bed sheet and pillow cases came with black fiber dust. The staff at the front desk was in a hurry when we were checking in. No other guest was around at that time. We didn't get any info about our privilege as a member. Besides, no information was given about other in house services or restaurants or breakfast venue. Non the less, it's a great place to stay.

mother daughter get away
my young teen daughter and myself spent five days, rooms spotlessly clean, well equipped. we found transport easily accessible, enjoyed a great breakfast every morning and thoroughly enjoyed the huge varieties of restaurants on lygon street, would definitely stay again.

Perfect city hotel, great value and great service!
We needed to stay in the city and the Rydges on Swanston more than met our expectations. Hotel room was very spacious and service was great. We also signed up with priority guest rewards which gave us a discount, 2 free drinks and complimentary Internet. Only downside is that the bathroom needs a slight renovation. We'll be staying here again!
