Good, affordable basic accomodations.
My sister and I spent 4 nights here in April. We came to London to visit her daughter who was studying at University College London and to sightsee. The hotel is very close to the student housing. It is a 10 minute walk to the Russell Square Tube station, the Kings Cross Tube station and the St. Pancreas train station. This made it the perfect location for us! The room was clean and quiet, the beds comfortable and the plumbing was easy to operate. The weather was cold, down in the 30's at night. If anything, the room was a little too warm and stuffy but we turned the fan up all the way and were so tired from our long days adventures that we had no trouble sleeping. We did not use the pool, spa etc. as we were up early every morning enjoying London and did not return until after 11:00 pm each night. We also did not eat in the restaurant as we did not want a "sit down" breakfast. (We had too many things to see and do!) We chose to stop at Costa, Caf¿¿ Nero or Pret A Manger for a quick "breakfast-to-go". Again, this is clean, basic accommodation. If you are an American traveler do not expect the room to be as spacious and well equipped as those in the U.S. The rooms are small. If you pull out the sofa bed there will not be a lot of room to walk around. This is pretty standard in Europe unless you are in a luxury hotel. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Acceptable but not competitive service
Stayed there for a week on business. Since it was business, and it is catering to business travellers, then the hotel needs to fix one big thing: Internet. The Wifi was expensive and very slow, frustratingly slow. I wouldnt care if i was with family. But i needed email and it was beyond impossible. There is a 'business centr" - one free computer in an office shared with staff. Other than this,the hotel is very clean, the food good. THe front desk staff were cold and brisk, not rude (quite) but its like they thought they signed up for something else and we customers were getting in the way. Location was fine for our purposes, near to the business we were visiting but for tourists probably not very good - quite removed from downtown. On the other hand, probably affordable given the locaiton.

Weekend stay
Stayed with family for two nights May 2013. Booked two rooms with two double beds in each. Did not think to specify no smoking as I thought it was not allowed, also were unable to get adjoinng rooms but did get no smoking rooms on same floor. Clean, basic rooms as you would expect. Tea making facilities. No noise from outside. Room very warm and air conditioning was very noisy when left switched on the first night so managed without it on second night. We did not use hotal facilities as we were out sightseeing etc most of the time but understand that breakfast costs between ¿¿10 for continental and ¿¿15 for British. Hotel was quite a long walk to most places (if walking is difficult you will need to find out about bus routes or get taxis, there seem to be plenty of both) but found a lovely little cafe a short stroll away for breakfast on second morning. Turn right out of reception along Farringdon Road pass the Royal Mail Sorting, over junction up to next set of lights, Cafe Mayo across Road on the corner. Nice clean, friendly cafe with good service reasonably priced. Wish we found it sooner!!

Not up to usual standard of 4*
Other reviews are mixed and I agree, food is excellent and health centre a bonus if you are willing to pay for each person per day. However, rooms are missing some of the things you might expect, no selection of teas/coffess, limited sugar milk, no shower caps etc. I booked 3 rooms for 4 adults and 3 children on a family celebration, plenty of towels on first day but not next, no extra cups etc so had to keep asking for more and waiting for someone to bring them. These rooms were small, once the sofa bed was out you cannot walk around the room, get to open/close cutains etc. Ordered tea and coffee in lounge in afternoon and it took 25 minutes to arrive and there was only one other customer there. When it came it was cold. The staff are pleasant and helpful, look out for Eddie in the bar at night as he is great at entertaining kids with magic tricks. The location is away from restaurants etc, if you turn right out of the hotel and walk for 5 minutes you will find many different food options but limited for children at night. The walk to the tube is along a dusty busy main road and took us much longer than suggested by hotel.

May weekend in London
Nice hotel, clean and well situated for exploring London. We made a mistake when booking and had booked a family room with a sofa bed instead of room with two double beds as one of our children is 16 and the other 5 it would be a squash in a sofa bed.The receptionist sorted this out for us. They have a small swimming pool and hot tub in the hotel which was again clean and tidy.Must mention John the lovely young man who was working in the spa, he went out of his way to help us,all the staff were helpful in fairness but he deserves a special mention. The room service was good and served quickly, the buffet breakfast was very good with lots of choice, we were less impressed the restaurant it was ok food, waiter were pleasant enough. The air con was not very effective and the room did become stuffy as the windows didn't open,the air con was noisy too. .
