Convenient For U.S. Embassy

We stayed here because we needed to get a passport of our son who was born here in France. It is really conveniently located just around the block from the embassy. Checking in was easy and quick which was nice. The room was small with a view of the lobby roof which was dirty and the backs of other buildings, not too surprising. They accommodated us with a crib for our infant and an extra single bed for our 4 year old. The room became more and more hot through out the night and the thermostat did not work so we were baking a bit. The location is great! It is in the 8th arr. of Paris with the Louvre a block away and the Champs- Elys¿¿es right up the street. If you want to stay in the heart of Paris and are not planning on staying in your room too much then this may be a good bet. Though you may find better places in other arrondissement's. We wanted to be close to the embassy as our appointment was first thing in the morning.

Awful hotel, good location

My friend and I were running the Paris marathon in April 2013 so we booked three rooms to stay here for the weekend, along with my wife and parents.When my wife and I arrived at 2pm, our room was not ready. When we eventually got our room, it was shabby, dirty and we had twin beds (when we had booked a double). Our room had no shower screen/curtain so a shower resulted in flooding the bathroom. The bathroom sink was falling off the wall, there was a brown stain on the ceiling of the bathroom (which I think was a dead fly but I cannot be sure). The general appearance of the reception area, hallways and room was awful.My friend's room was marginally better as it seemed to have been refurbished. My parents were not so lucky - when they arrived in the evening they were told there was no room for them and they had to stay at another hotel. This was very distressing for them (they are in their 60s). It also meant that for the early start the next morning we would not be in the same hotel which was extremely annoying, we had booked three rooms in the same hotel for a reason!This also meant they had to move hotels (back to Hotel de Castiglione) the next day which resulting in them missing me finishing the marathon.Further issues included: - finding several pieces of broken glass on the floor of our room - one cut my foot (luckily after I had run the marathon!). This proved our suspicions that the room had not been cleaned properly before our arrival;- the heating was stuck on high with no possibility of adjusting the temperature in individual rooms;- the beds were uncomfortable;- no kettles were provided in the rooms;- poor lighting;- someone walking into our room at 11.05pm one evening (the reception staff explained this as someone "getting the rooms ready" - they did not apologise or acknowledge that this was completely unacceptable at that time of night);- the bar and restaurant did not open at any time in the three days we were there; - the staff were of varying quality and helpfulness, some were indifferent, rude, arrogant and useless; and- breakfast was quite poor (just two choices of cereal, bread, tea, coffee and juice) for EUR20.I cannot believe that this hotel is a four star hotel. The only positive was the good location.

Convenient and basic

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The stuff was really helpful and very eager to help us with anything we wanted. Rooms are old, convenient and besides the towels and sheets that were clean (and changed every day) the rooms are a bit...lets say not the cleanest you can get (e.g. dirty curtains, mould in the bathroom). Breakfast is more than adequate (different kind of bread, many kinds of croissante, marmelade,eggs etc). Theres a young girl working in the morning that never smiles and that was not the thing you should start the day with but thatis my problem i guess. the location is absolutely perfect and safe, theres a franprix nearby, and some nice bistrots too, 2 metro stations close by. But overall i would definitelly say it is overpriced. Your choice to make!

Very old place, but with good location

This hotel has a very good location, very close to the best shopping areas, and also close to the subway important connections. The facility is old, but is worth the location. The breakfast is great!! you can walk to Champ Elysee area, the rooms don't have good views either, but is worth for the location and the breakfast.

Medieval Castiglione

Stayed 2 nights here and have to say that while location was perfect with walking distances to all major attractions,the hotel itself was dire. On arrival and check out the desk staff were polite and even friendly but they were the only ones. The room was clean and well appointed but the heating failed to work which in February is pretty essential.Public areas were grim and depressing with construction being done but no workers in evidence somehow.The dining room, which supposedly doubled as a bar in the evenings yet never managed to open,was a disgrace with pathetic breakfast fare even by the modest standards of French continental breakfasts.The coffee was like industrial sludge! If you cannot even manage the most basic items like this here is little hope. The breakfast staff too were sullen and unwelcoming as if guests were an inconvenience to their clear disinterest. If I owned the property,given its location I would completely renovate it and wart again bu as it stands it is all that is wrong with French hotels.
