Some hiccups, but okay
We spent our Easter break in Uluru and stayed at Sails in the Desert. The general area is absolutely breathtaking! It was my third time there (the first two times - years ago - we camped) and I cannot stress enough how worthwhile a trip to the Red Centre is. Our time at Sails was generally okay. The room was clean and the bed was actually pretty wonderful (especially after a day of hiking). The bathroom could have been better designed (shower over bath, with a shower curtain...what's with shower curtains in purportedly upmarket hotels?!?). Food was ridiculously pricey. I was just lucky my partner and I could enjoy half priced meals thanks to our Accor Advantage Plus card. Otherwise, a simple burger with fries would set you back $27. As a foodie, I was also concerned by the menu stating things like "Wagyu beef steak sandwich". Provenance and accuracy are hugely important to me when it comes to food...and I can assure you the steak was not Wagyu. Similarly, we ordered a cured meat platter one night. The menu stated it should come with 4 different types of pretty delicious sounding meats. We were brought what looked like cheap supermarket ham and some slices of prosciutto... Food aside, service was always attentive and cheerful. Where mistakes were made, they were rectified with a smile. Options are pretty limited (and all are expensive for what they are) in this part of the world and while Sails is a long way from perfect, it's a pretty comfortable place to unwind after enjoying such a beautiful part of the world.

Red Desert
It is a very nice hotel, but for what you pay at least you should get complementary wifi, I had a problem with the toilet, the space is kind of small, and for what the other people say I was not the only one who took a while to find the room without help, and even more to get our luggage to our room.

Excellent Hotel - staff trying very hard
Sails is not a 5 star resort. But that is no big deal. What it offered was nice clean and tidy rooms with all the amenities needed and a large pool. The grounds were well kept and very picturesque - particularly the large gums in the courtyard. Meals were good. Staff seem to try very hard to be friendly and helpful although some not as polished as at some hotels - but the fact that they all seem to be trying hard is great.Sails sets you for the visit to Uluru and the other sights. It really is very well done to provides a great place to base yourself to take in the key sights that bring you to this place in the first place. The range of activities available was wide and varied and all seemed to offer something interesting - eg sunrise/sunset tour to the rock, aboriginal culture, trips to the Olgas, day trips to the rock, camel rides, dinning under the stars and so on.It all comes together very neatly to facilitate a 2-3 night stay where you can easily take in the best of the area and what it has to offer and have plenty of fun

5 star....three missing
While there are not many choices for hotels at Ayers Rock, this is as good as it gets.Called a 5 star hotel, it should have been 2 or 3. Average rooms, poor air conditioning concidering how hot it is. Very average food in the dining room. Non-caring, bordering on rude, front desk staff. Waited hours for bellman to bring a spare key.Best there is there.....but certainly no what they claim to be with the star rating.

Avoid at all cost
Where to start: this hotel would be a decent four stars, but nowhere close to a five stars, except for the price. Staff is sad and short tempered: young people on a yearly working visa, they have no idea of service, all they do is feeling miserable for themselves for being stuck out there.Rooms are very disappointing, shabby and poorly designed.The swimming pool was so cold that it was impossible to use at 23*, and the edges scarily slippery. No gym. To get to the National Parks you can only buy a lift from the local minibus for $50 each person, that goes off only a few time a day. You would expect from a five stars hotel a continuous minibus service to the attractions, or at least a taxi service?!If you go in the area, it is vital to rent a car and book it early!
