Terrific!
Staying here at the moment for four night in the caravan park area. Good deal with 4 nights/pay for 3. It is central to all attractions. Great swimming pools to cool off in after a big day sightseeing, great bar/bistro and friendly service. Prices are a little higher than normal for a beer etc. but you are in Kakadu and in the middle of 'nowhere', everything has to be trucked in. Mozzies are bad but still worth the visit.

Great stay at cooinda
Ive stayed here twice June 2011 and June 2013 with family from Melbourne. Stayed in outback rooms both times as mozzies here are very bad. Take lots of spray!!!!! Outback rooms are basic just a bed but that's all you need they have other options such as the lodge rooms if you prefer luxury. Paid $95 for a double room and 37 per person in a twin which is not too bad. Aircon and rooms are clean. Bathrooms are always clean. My only negative remark is that the common kitchen is quite poor. Microwave and kettle kept overloading at the power point which makes them impossible to use and make sure you keep an eye on the stoves as they turn off every 10 minutes. Bistro food is ok very expensive for pub style food. I understand that its out of the way but these prices are far too high to say your only 3 hours from Darwin freight charges are insane. Overall all pleasant experience grounds and lovely and its so close to jim jim etc.

Okay
We stayed at Cooinda for 1 night. It was okay. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were basic and quite expensive for what you get. The facilities in the room are 'motel facilities' with only a kettle. The location is fantastic and the main pool is fabulous. The meals were very expensive... but as we didn't have any other food with us, the bistro was our only option. We chose to stay here as we were booked on a yellow water cruise early the next morning (which was fantastic and included an awesome buffet breaky!).

Super Location, very high prices!
Traveling in a little camper, we stayed two nights to see the exquisite bird and animal life of the wetlands. The first dawn cruise very expensive (included very good breakfast), 2nd evening cruise at a very reduced rate. Campsite good but lots of mosquitoes, as expected in a swamp! Hotel pool lovely and mosquito free. Camp prices the highest we have met in Australia, so far. Saw lots of wild life and is a must if you are keen on birds and crocs.

Top end at it's best
We really enjoyed our stay here, nice bar, nice food. We met some friendly locals fishing and they gave us a couple of Baramundi fillets, which we took to the restaurant who cooked it for us at a small charge. Doesn't come much better.One negative point - it was wet season and we fueled our 4x4 with diesel before we departed. We drove to Jabiru and then heading back to Darwin the engine stopped at Sth Alligator Creek, we got towed back to Jabiru. Verdict - water in the Diesel picked up from Cooinda, 2 days and $5,000 wasted. Be wary when buying diesel (or petrol) in isolated places during the wet season.
