A perfect week-end retreat / Ben and Virginia
My partner and I had driven through once before and thought it might be a nice place to stay 'some day'. We had reason to book in for a week-end as we had been invited to a function held at the 'Cuisine' restaurant. We are so happy that the invite forced our hand to go earlier rather than later. Now we will definately be back. The accomodation was perfect with a fantastic balcony above the water in the little lake and with a fireplace, which we used and enjoyed one night. We enjoyed several track walks of differing lengths and in particular one along Little Thredbo River up to and then along the main Threbo River. The Cuisine restaurant hosted the function and everything about that was excellent. The food, the staff and the 'flow' certainly would make us book a function ourselves if the occasion arises. The breakfast served in the restaurant offered great choice and the staff were very friendly. There was a minor hickup with one of our meals the night that we ate in the restaurant for a treat dinner, but the staff handled it quickly and with great flair and efficiency.

Great weekend escape
We had a fantastic weekend away at this resort, there is plenty to do and the grounds are breathtakingly beautiful and expansive. We saw kangaroos, deer and an abundance of birds. We went canoeing on the lake and took a drive out to the Yarrangobilly Caves (highly reccommend) where we swam in the thermal pool.We were put in a 1 bedroom mountain chalet which was big, spacious and clean, however the bed was so uncomfortable I barely slept at all the two nights we were there, they also had two single beds pushed together to make the double which i really hate as one of us always falls down the middle. I had also really been looking forward to cuddling up in front of a fireplace and we were given what seemed to be one of the very few rooms that didnt have a fireplace, it kind of seems pointless to have a chalet in the mountains that doesnt have a fireplace! We also booked one of the most expensive rooms assuming that this would guarantee a fireplace. We asked to be moved to a room with a fireplace and they told us they were booked out that night so we asked to be moved to one the next night. Their response was they could only move us if the cleaners had the time to clean an extra room and they would let us know the next day. They never bothered to call us back, they really didn't seem to care what we wanted. For this reason I dont rate the service very highly. In addition, for the two nights we were there our room wasn't cleaned, not sure if this is just the way they do things or it was an actual oversight. The food in the two restaurants is absolutely amazing! One restaurant (The Alpine) has hearty, comforting food like woodfired pizzas while the other (Cuisine) is fine dining. The daily buffet breakfast included in the rate is filling, fresh and there is every option imaginable. All in all it was a very nice romantic weekend and we will return.

A mountain break worth driving for
Just returned from this resort and wish I was still sitting in that apartment overlooking the tranquil lake. # 48 is a three bedroom, two level apartment (only shares one common wall) on the lake with the living room sitting right above the water. You feel that you are almost in a house boat but without the motion! There is heating in every room and even the floor tiles in the kitchen area have underfloor heating! Rooms are spacious with bedding available for 7 people. Sleep quality: The beds were quite soft and my partner did end up with a very sore back for the duration of the stay. Maybe a massage at the spa would have helped but they are too expensive for our budget. The kids were fine with their beds. For some of the negative comments about the restaurant prices - the Cuisine (and caf¿¿) pricing is not actually that different as in the Jindabyne. Yes, the food is pricey but considering that this location is half way up a mountain and everything has to be transported in it is fair. You can bring food with you and have a lovely home cooked meal instead ;) The issue for me were the "hidden" costs. The venue markets the fact that there is a fireplace - but you don't find out till you get there that you have to purchase firewood ($25 per bag at reception). The Segway activity sounded like a fantastic opportunity but that is also $50 per person for an hour - we have a family of 5 so that became unaffordable. Thankfully there are plenty of free activities, including picturesque walking trails and you are only about 20 minutes drive from the Thredbo village where you can either hike to the top of Australia's highest mountain or take a chair lift (offcourse it is also prime skiing territory in winter time)Would absolutely LOVE to stay again, just need to plan for the drive time from Sydney of 7 odd hours (each way), and allow for a stay period of 4 full days minimum.

Lovely location
Our second stay at this great location. Lovely, but beware - you may need to pay for the wood for your lounge-room fire. We had to ($25/bag) and were refused a refund on an unused bag. Great breakfasts. Many of our group enjoyed their 'extreme' Segway off-road tour.
