WONDERFUL
Hotel is in a great location right off Riverwalk but a bit out of way for all Riverwalk activities. River taxi services just outside and down a few steps but is still outside the active areas. Very quiet and clean rooms and the staff was simply wonderful. All services are very friendly and at your finger tips. Pool is very clean as is the spa and gym. The rooms are a bit above average . Building was originally a bank and converted to a hotel.

Corporate atmosphere
Just visited San Antonio for the first time and stayed at this hotel 4 nights. The staff members were all very nice & friendly and I would give them 5 stars. We stayed in a standard 2 queen room and it was nice & clean. The reason I marked this hotel down was because I was expecting it to be near the action on the Riverwalk. Technically it is on the Riverwalk because an undeveloped portion of the riverwalk runs directly behind the hotel, but the area of the Riverwalk that the boat tours operate on and the section where all the restaurants, shops & activities take place is about a 10 minute walk away from the hotel. We did a lot of walking to get to where the activities such as the Riverwalk, Alamo, and Market Square were all located. This hotel has a corporate feel to it right from the start, from the antiseptic lobby to the numerous floors of meeting rooms. The floor & wall coverings and the decor in the hallways needs a face lift. Very little character or design. So, if you are looking for a business oriented location with few distractions, yet still located in downtown San Antonio, this is probably a good choice. However, if you are looking for a place with character, charm and active location, then I would recommend finding another hotel.

Not a 4 star but a bouncy 3
We have stayed at this hotel several times now and have enjoyed it each time. While technically it's not "on" the Riverwalk it might as well be due to the two access points to the river within a minute or so from the hotel. It has the added benefit of not being on the "loop" of the Riverwalk where it can get crowded, crazy and loud. If you walk out the north end of the porte cochere and across the vacant lot across the street you'll find a fantastic hidden entrance to the north section of the Riverwalk. If you head north and take the Navarro Street exit off the Riverwalk it will drop you in front of Hotel Havana and the always incredible Ocho Bar. If you have an exploring nature BCycle (bcycle.com) has just added a bike rental station on the corner of Pecan and Main St just out the front entrance of the hotel. $10 for 24 hours gets you around SA healthy and affordably. The rooms are fairly spacious although the furnishings are showing signs of wear. The bedding is on par with 4 star rated hotels although other areas and aspects of the hotel clearly aren't 4 star. The most obvious is the 3rd floor pool which while large and still enjoyable is well overdue for a remodel. The decking around the pool is the filthiest I've encountered since my review of Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs. There were cigarette butts everywhere and the decking is just filthy overall. Hopefully, management reads this and invests a little in cleaning if nothing else. The fitness center on the other hand is a large first class facility equipped with up to date Life Fitness equipment. If you're stuck on ratings and must have all the true benefits of a 4 star property then this isn't your place. On the other hand if you can drop down a notch or so in standards this hotel is a great alternative.

Elevators
The only downfall I saw, was that out of 4 elevators, most of the time only two worked. Being in a conference, you have to hurry up and go to different areas and waiting for those elevators was a hassle.Breakfast buffet was excellent to include the waiters and staff.

OUTSTANDING SERVICE
We attended a State Convention and stayed at the Crowne for a night. THE EMPLOYEES ARE OUTSTANDING AT THE HOTEL. Everyone from check-in to waitresses to maids are wonderful. The beds are marvelous. Breakfast buffett delicious (the only time we ate there).The only drawback is it is a pretty good walk to the heart of the riverwalk and anyone that isn't used to walking or old may be too much. We didn't have any problems and we are in our 50's.
